Only one company is left standing from this entire list.

Only one carrier with a sub 90 OR, these days the shareholders would be organizing a lynch mob for top management for at least 35 of the 40 carriers on that list.
That was the year ABF bought Navajo. Many questioned their decision to buy just before deregulation. It was not without consequences but it proved to be a good business decision. It takes a while to turn a non profitable business around, ABF has been the only organized carrier one to survive large acqusitions.
Time DC still runs tankers, Central is still around unless I am confusing them with a different carrier.

Oh, they still exist, but they broke the union years ago. So they're like a zombie company.

Some truckload carrier in Missouri is using the name and logo, but not the LTL Time DC headquartered in Lubbock.Central Freight Lines - Wikipedia

2 companies listed are technically owned by Abf. East Texas and Carolina. Also could be argued that overnite Is still around just different owners now.
