GAUTIER - A large fire in Gautier threatened about 25 homes Thursday after a dump truck crashed into a power pole. The fallen lines sparked a long, narrow blaze that stretched nearly half a mile.
The driver of the truck was not hurt, but the crash set the fire on Lark Drive at about 1 p.m. and the blaze crawled toward Spring Ridge Rd. Mississippi Sand Hill Crane National Wildlife Refuge personnel, Mississippi Forestry Commission workers and Gautier firefighters alongside volunteer fire departments tamed the fire before it reached any homes.
