Tyson Johnson has not signed off on this change of policy yet but wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't. As far as them providing us with unsafe equipment and unmakable runs is the reason the scores are so high. Trying to lay the blame on us once again. So am I reading this right. The crap equipment they provide for us we can now get written up for using? And the Union will back their disciplinary letter.
I'm confused
The memo is 2 years old. If you read the violations they list, they are all things drivers are responsible for anyway. Your CDL, hours of service, medical card, and such, belong to you. Not YRC. But the biggest violations we have, are lights, tires, and brakes. Things that should be addressed before leaving a terminal. That is, if you do a proper pretrip. So am I reading this right. Not taking sides here, M. But see drivers everyday just start the truck, and head straight out the gate. They would not know if their turn signals are even working. Just sayin...Ya. Two years old.
Things have improved since then.

What is the DOT SAFT number about? It is quite simple. 392.3 Understand it. Read it . Do a proper pre-trip inspection. Document every prê-trip & post inspection. Be sure to write it up. Violation or not. Writer up a VCR & write ‘previous damages all units’. Write ‘no defects or violations found’. Time stamp it or write the time on it. Have a paper trail. Keep a copy of the VCC, or make one. If no VCR write it on you logs or if no paper log write it on the bill or your manifest. Make them look bad. Cover your as*.
· 2 hours down the road you get inspected you can show you did a pre-trip. A pre & post trip is required by DOT & Federal Regulations. By DOT reg’s you only have to write up an inspection if you found something wrong. Keep a copy of everything. Call 1-888-DOT-SAFT (368-7238) from 8am‒8pm, Mon‒Fri EST. Trust me. YRC or any other company doesn’t want you calling this #. Or call you safety dept @ corporate. Tell the them to explain to your dispatcher why you should not drive this truck until it is replaced or fixed.
To call the FMCS & tell them about a violation of the reg's. or a supervisor forcing you to drive equipment you believe to be unsafe. Call them in the morning & they will tell why you might need to call their #. It is toll free. After you call them to find the answer to your question, why don't you return here to post what they said. What is the DOT SAFT number about?
