And even if you move during those periods, A real go-getter, do anything attitude is not always smiled upon in all union barns. Some nonunion ones as well. Guys and gals that have been there a long time may not appreciate being shown up by the noob. Tread carefully, my friend, and good luck!

Don"t listen to this guy he"s been coming to this board for the past few weeks stirring up ::. He claims to be employed by R&L yet he's on this site all day long. (Just look at the upper left of the avatar, if it"s green he's here) I choose to not respond to him & after reading his posts you will to....This floors me. A man's primary role in this life is to provide for his family as much as he possibly can. If he isn't a go getter, or bringing home as much as he possibly can, what kind of man is he.
If another man doesn't appreciate or respect that he is scum in my view. The lowest of the low.
I'm assuming you're talking about this Ted Decker fellow and not myself right?Don"t listen to this guy he"s been coming to this board for the past few weeks stirring up ::::. Oh yes...I'm assuming you're talking about this Ted Decker fellow and not myself right?
Nothing this person says makes any sense, he just keeps talking in circles then cry’s personal attack....But,.....what was his point? R & L doesn't do...home deliveries? I know for certain they do.....
ABF does too many?.....What is "too many"...if there's profit in it, and you're paid by the hour?
I didn't quite understand what he was getting at.......
Was he trying to make a point that Amazon freight was a....stinker...as far as profit goes?
Was he intimating that the Union side of ABF was....living on borrowed time?
....(...What sort of repercussions would that have for the non-Union LTL carriers?.......Would things get..."better"?....Or, would companies run rampant through their labor force,....like the 100% non-Union Truckload carrier side does?...).....
Waiting with bated breath for his clarification.........

Stepping on a fellow brother or coworker to do it is wrong of course but doing it by simply more effort is the American way.
Did they let you go on your 8? Did you always have a morning start, or did you just blow a lot of time off? I’m not saying being there for your kids (sports) is a bad thing while on call at Roadway I would start between 3-5 am and was lucky enough to be there 2nd childs sports but I worked all kind of crazy shifts & tons of overtime with my first child (not by choice). This day & age someone just starting out has no chance of being there, not in this profession....Not sure I can agree with your theory, raising children, one may need to put quality time for their needs other
than the dollar.
Being at the top of the seniority board, but never close to the top wage earners list, I helped my wife raise 2
as good as one could ask for, then again, my opinion is like yours, everybody has one.
Yep, I lost a lot of money because of, practice, football, baseball, basketball, track, band and who knows what else, guess I was just not a "go getter"

Ya I’ve always been city, they pretty much own you....We had a wheel board (rotating) I think the only one in the Carolinas, as for morning start, if you call midnight, yes, Mon, Wed, Fri Jax, we bid every 6 mos.
I ran the Carolina board when I wanted, turns only, you could just about pick what you wanted, never worked any city or local,no OT.
You're right,I guarded the phone my share when I started in 55.
Raised my kids working graveyard. Volunteered in the classroom, coached teams, music lessons, doctor’s appointments, etc, etc.
I don’t care what anyone pays, my time is ultimately more valuable.
Now they’re grown, moved on and gainfully employed. Youngest is outta college in a couple years and I’ll retire.
I’m thinking my strategy worked?
My hat is off to you my good man, I run a graveyard linehaul schedule turn, leaving out between 9 and midnight. There’s no way on earth I could do all the other stuff (coaching, etc) that you did. Some nights I struggle to stay awake and I’ve slept 9 hours during the day...
I was fortunate to be able to function on minimal sleep an hour or two at a time. I can still sleep anytime, anywhere; I just need more naps. I take one everyday during my lunch break. Thomas Edison my hero!
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.powerofpositivity.com/heres-naps-can-make-creative/amp/I always thought this was a disadvantage for me, don't think I've ever had 8 hrs. continuous sleep,
that 15 or 30 min nap still works miracles for me today.
Nice to get a little confirmation that,...sleeping the way I do...2 or 3 hours at a time,.....and a daylight nap....is relatively normal.
Maybe it's got something to do with the truck driver lifestyle,.........where you sleep when you can......
Next time my wife is kicking my foot while I'm sprawled out on the recliner,...and chiding me for being...."lazy".....I'll explain to her the.....high dynamics of truck driver sleeping,......and that I'm merely plotting out my next moves,..with my eyes closed.......
If she'll fall for that,.....I'll see if she will let me mount a steering wheel on the recliner chair.........Somehow , I think I could nap better, if I could drape myself across a wheel.........
