NEW YORK -- A truck carrying a crane hit an overpass Wednesday afternoon in Queens, causing eastbound traffic on the Long Island Expressway to be backed up for miles before lanes reopened.
The accident occurred on the LIE underneath an overpass for Bell Boulevard in the Oakland Gardens section of Queens, closing all but one lane of the eastbound side of the highway.
Authorities issued five summons to the truck driver in connection with the accident, NewsChannel 4 reported. Those summons were for an unsecured lead, no chain on roll off, no heavy duty inspection, no highway use tax stamp and for disobeying a sign which indicated height restrictions.
