Yellow | No Rent Money?

I said the whole time moving Valdosta to Thomasville was a terrible mistake. In Florida, ALL of our drivers were hardcore. If Atlanta just dropped their freight in Valdosta, we would be there in quick. That fell on deaf ears. I used to run 5 trips a week. I wanted to run 10. But "how dare you tell the company". All of our drivers line haul wanted to run. But management.....

I’m surprised Estes objected to the condition of any of these terminals considering the state most of their own terminals are in.
Haha you mean the company who just keeps opening new terminal after new terminal? You mean the debt free company operating in the high 70’s that just gave drivers a $2/hr and $.035/mile raise? The company paying $34/hr and $0.84/mile?

LoLs

Some facilities need some improvement, sure. 90% of trucking facilities do. But Estes is building and remodeling all over the country but the biggest thing is——They’re doing it debt free and answer to no one. Pretty crazy huh?
Estes is the most financially secure carrier in the country, by far

Estes is private owned, how can you state non public information? They are not required to disclose.

I know plenty of people at Estes from VP’s to TM’s. Been in the industry for 25+ years and am great friends with the former SE VP of Ops and know the NE VP pretty well.
Estes is smoking it right now- Most other LTL carriers are down YOY but Estes bill count and tonnage is 10-15% up YOY despite going through a cyber attack. Biggest positive is they are indeed private, debt free and set up very well for the long haul. If they purchase the YRC facilities, watch out. Because their only restriction right now is nation wide door space which, they’re constantly working on. Just in the past 2 years they have increased their dock doors in Texas by over 20% plus new facilities in CA, TX, IL, OH, GA, SC, and breaking ground in Fort Myers, FL for a new 60 door facility in early 2024.

It likely has much more to do with legal clean-up liabilities. When buying a property and soon after discovering major soil contamination, for example, the buyer has recourse for failure of the seller to disclose a known defect. If the seller no longer exists, the buyer can't make them pay for said clean up. Now that it's been discovered, buyer is obligated to remediate it or disclose to the next buyer, greatly reducing the value of the investment.
Interesting, then if Yellow is reborn they will be on the hook for any remediation??
Estes or whatever purchaser of property, will be able to go back at Yellow for any contamination and related expenses. Which are generally very big...

All this Estes talk recently could make them attractive to a buyer, and before you say Estes would never sell...ya never know

Maybe but they are asset heavy with properties they do not occupy. Making them and expensive acquisition.
Yellow should have studied Estes and ran a similar business.
Unflrtunatelky SOB decided to end all of that...
But it got UPS employees a good contract at the expense of Yellow employees....

Estes doesn't even have a terminal in the 10th largest city in the USA. Ask a person on the street, have you heard of Estes freight? They have heard of ups and FedEx, lTl companies are unknown to the public .

The leadership at Estes wants nothing to do with selling or going public. Just promoted Webb to President, and he is probably more employee driven than Rob was. Not to mention the Hupp family who has several younger generations coming up now to lead the company in the future.
Estes is just different. Such a small feel family culture yet benefits and financial securement of the size company they are

That's true, LTL is essentially a business to business type of transaction. Over the past few years it is evolving with work from home and online purchasing.
Thus the general public would not know names of major LTL carriers. UPS and Fed Ex show up at homes and be a more common experience for the person on the street.
No different that the man on the street not being aware of gigantic companies such as Deloitte, Bechtel, Owens & Minor or thousands of other huge corporations.

For the most part, I would agree with you. But, Estes is more well known ever since Covid because of the decision Estes made in 2017 to really dive into the Final Mile market. Estes handles a lot of residential deliveries, more than any other carrier, by a good margin. Their Estes Final Mile business is very profitable but obviously has its down sides- Like actually delivering to houses. Estes has done well by buying thousands of liftgate trailers and electric pallet jacks to make it easier for drivers. But it’s obvious the e-commerce business is here to stay so, smart move on their part.
