I guess they changed the exit numbers to coincide with the milemarkers since I used to run through there.
They're in the process of doing that. Already done from CT line to around Beacon-Newburgh Bridge and currently working from bridge to PA line.

The way it sounds it's in the area that used to be like exit 15 or something like that, right?

Coming west down Stormville mountain the old exit number for the Taconic was 16 so you're correct about that. The accident was apparently between old Exit 17 and old Exit 16, somewhere west of the Stormville rest area I believe.
I think you have too little weight in your cranium.
Told he's OK. Believe he was out of Providence (Cumberland), RI terminal (108).

Stormville was a good Georgia Overdrive ride back in the 70's. We had a driver, Danny G., said he was going so fast the tires got skinny.
Still is! Just like northbound on the Northway (I87) at the 113 mile marker down toward Elizabethtown. Couple of "whoopee" rides for sure

get off i87 and take a ride on 208 or 28 through Kingston at night. no light penetrating the darkness on 208. or 212 through Woodstock.
That was level ground speed for Big Rs, back in their (heydays!)
