The Pay Scale never goes up , even with the Driver Shortage ??? and then companies wonder why nobody will apply ?? thinking more freight needs to sit across the USA ,till the pay scale goes up & companies stop treating Drivers like **it !!!!
new drivers, even when hired and trained, are not replacing the retirees or those who go elsewhere. we have one guy on vacation, it takes three to pickup and deliver his route, he is a diligent job seeker. it takes two to replace the recent retiree in another area, it is still a net loss.

They do in Europe.I am surprised they do not have semi trains, with one driver in a lead truck, followed by 2 or 3 computer trucks that rely on the human for input.

I do not understand what you are saying here. While it is true that all the experience in the world would be wasted on some most will make good use of it. If you have run the road all your life I could understand how you miss out on the value of an experienced freight man. Maybe you should take my peddle run out when the rookie loads it. Or maybe you should try stripping inbound loads for a while so you can see the difference between loaders.It is a fantasy to believe that expierience equals value. Some, regardless of expierience, provide a greater return on investment. That does not equate to greater value. Neither does greater effort result in increased value. Value is an abstract.
Drivers - experienced or not are no more valuable than anyone else - :)

It can't be both ways - Drivers, especially experienced drivers are either very valuable or no more valuable than any other driver/dock/janitor/clerk....
I'm saying that all the expierience in the world doesn't help if not used. Conversely, all the enthusiasm in the world rarely overcomes no knowledge.
BTW. I have worked on docks. And I do appreciate what a good stacker is capable of. Also a dock man who loads a P&D route can make the driver look like a star if he's familiar with the route and follows the loading plan.
Well I have to say you are all right. After many years with CF, ROADWAY AND NOW YRC. I have resigned and moved on. There are about 12 drivers that have left the barn in San Bernadino, Ca to this company. We all did not want to leave and had enough time in to hold a bid. But the constant battle and uncertainty with the company was enough for us to go. I wish all of you the best and hope that someday the company realizes the value of good employees. Just as a side note we were all line drivers and the new job pays more and treats us with respect. Although the insurance is not as good the pay does make up the difference. Having been a steward I will always keep track of my friends the union, and the company.
