You asked the question, so now I will ask the question. How long you been driving Chip? How many years with OD, Chip? Where y’all getting your information about acquisition. Hey Chip, give us the facts. Sources. If I spread every road rumor on here, I wouldn’t have time to work. Look at this Chippy, I work a schedule of my choosing, I have been asked to work over the weekend. I don’t know where y’all are at, but the PNW is busting at the seams. Y’all need to listen to experience. I will now step off the soapbox.Lhdrvr, it just makes sense. An acquisition that is...let’s get staffed up so when it does take place, we will have the people in place to take care of the added business. People will move on, (quit) during the process, so it’s good to have plenty on tap to meet the demands of the added work.
That’s a dead give away. It sounds like something a rookie would ask. Besides where’s the dots connecting between how long a driver has been driving and the speculations. I’ve only been driving 1 day. Does that mean I am stupid.Ok/so how many years have you been trucking?
New forum rules on being offensive? Oh my...have you visited the ABF forum lately? But back to the original subject...OD has been on a hiring spree for a while now. Four friends of mine (2 who are long-time friends) have got hired there within the last several months. Heck, I even explored getting on there myself several years ago. So, as far as a potential acquisition goes, if OD bought a non-union carrier they might not have to ‘re-hire’ those drivers and that might explain the hiring surge. But I have to admit I do like billylo’s reference to the ‘Friday/Monday’ call offs in the summer! It's too bad it doesn't matter weather it's facebook or forums or wherever people can't just talk and share. Doesn't matter weather it's speculation. We gave our opinions on what we see. We really just don't need the hostility created by another party or 2. I won't name names or engage since there are new forum rules about being directly offensive towards other parties on the forums. Just don't engage that fella, or fellas. Keep on keeping on.
Good advice, billy. Been married 30 years and we’ve lived frugally (for the most part), and have been good savers throughout. Living within ones means is a concept that’s been somewhat lost on the younger generations. I retired recently, and I’m ‘only’ 58, so it can be done. The wife loves her job and has a terrific pension that’ll be better than my Teamsters one eventually. She can retire anytime, but plans to hang on longer. Besides, she’s enjoying how clean the house is when she gets home! I don’t have the nerve to tell her I hire that work out!! Stay safe my friend, and have a good Holiday weekend! No matter how busy you get at this place always try to live within a 40 hr paycheck on the city board. Some years they get silly and bring on way too many hands until some quit, fired, injures or laid off. You won’t even notice the slow down as much when you living in your means jr.
Excellent advice from both of you. Driver’s will get the big money runs and go spend crazy. What happens sometimes is they’re not high enough on the board and loose the run, but stuck with the debt. My advice, put 10% or more into the 401k. Especially if you are younger. Save.Good advice, billy. The corporate "BS" language about insider trading has always been on the financial statements and the new handbook is a compilation of many different resources into one. The overtime theory is far more plausible than a buyout, but as others have said, if you've been around a long time you know we have to hire to keep up with demand and sometimes it means over hiring. Calm down everyone .I don't think this has anything to do with overtime. Most of the hiring seems to be combo or line haul. I'm with Under Pressure here I think there's a possibility of either an acquisition, merger or major customer coming. Also keep in mind the timing of Dave stepping aside as CEO. And this is not their typical every year summer hiring they began hiring last fall and never stopped. Word on the street seems to be they are at their point where they're about to stop hiring close to the Staffing levels they want. It is possible that this is just the new Norm they want to be overstaffed and ready to flex up, but something just seems different this time. If something's coming will find out 5 days after it happens. Oh and did you see all that corporate BS language in the new handbook online about insider trading and blah blah blah just corporate talk that would be keeping lips sealed around central.
I’ll keep it simple for you son and just leave it at over 25 years with OD.
And that doesn't make you any more valuable to the company. What it does do, however, is make you more of a liability in their eyes. Your age is nothing but a liability to them. They could care less about tenure. Don't kid yourself Billy.

Generally July ish usually any pay raise goes into effect the second week of September. When do those normally happen?
