Real meaning of "Ragged but Right".....Best put down I can ever recall:

Guy called Wild Bill ran for Pine Bluff Transformer out of Pine Bluff, AR. Power transformers AR to CA.
Drove a generic Diamond T cab over with the first of the 400 Cummins engines.
At the Chevron in Colton, CA.
He gets out and strolls in awe toward the pumps, looking at a loaded KW conventional,
stretched out job with a 3 BR sleeper, lots of chrome, snazzy paint. Meets it driver coming around the KW hood and
says:

"Golleee, that it some truck you got there.

KW driver just glows and says "Well, I like it".

Then Bill says:"I'd like to have your truck and my engine."

Whatta ya mean, your engine???? says the KW man.

Bill says: "I got a 400 in that Diamond T."

"Can I see it, as they walk over to his Diamond T........."

(Power is better than speed)

AAA is running 62 no more. I have a driver in a Chevy single axle blow my doors off just north of Atlanta the other night. The others seem to be running the same speed Averitt is.

That SA Chevy must have been an old T.J. Blackburn Syrup Works tractor.
In the late 50's they run "lasses" out of Jefferson, TX to the eastern markets.
Across AL and thru Atlanta. Said to have 454 engines, 5 speeds and 3 way brownies. The trick was he was pulling a flatbed with like 18" high sideboards loaded with cases of 1 gallon cans of molasses and tarped tight. You try running with him from B'Ham to Atlanta on old US78. It would be a learning experience..
