If you have PTO time available you will be paid. You will get an attendance point though. If you don't have an attendance problem it is no big deal. You have to give at least two hours notice, before your out time, and, they can declare it unexcused, if it adversely effects their operations that night. Unexcused means, you won't recieve any pay for that nightand you will have an "attendance point" assessed against you. These are equivalent to "Safety Strikes" in that once you get so many in a 12 month period......................You will become "Available to the Industry................
I don't really like the policy, but yeah, I know some kind of blanket policy has to be used. So, I use it to my advantage. If I have 0 points, i'll take a day or two off. Atleast with the policy in place, you know where you stand. If you have PTO time available you will be paid. You will get an attendance point though. If you don't have an attendance problem it is no big deal.

Example....I called out once because my wife got very sick and we have two young kids to take care of....I wasn't going to leave her at home puking her guts out and running high fevers having to drive herself to the doctors office and haul around the kids.....sorry guys family comes first. I called in well before 3 hours but still got a unexcused absence because they were already at the limit for people having time off that day. If there wasn't so many guys off that day then it would be an excused absence......that's what I was told. Oh well......Im not worried about it because its rare I have an attendance issue....and hey sometimes in life crap happens.
we were told at our barn about 2mos ago that it was 3hr call in.
This falls under FMLA(Family and Medical Leave Act ). Fill out some paperwork and get a signature from the doctor. This would be considered excused.
