falconfan, remember, he is also mad about 15% that he never saw anyway, and took the job KNOWING about....
Dang where you out of i know its diffrent per region for cost of livingI don't know what terminal you are at, but we are still below $24 per hour here
I can give you my ipay account to log into i have nothing to hide all im saying is they take around 100$ a week to put in my 401k with a 6% match you can set it up to have what ever you want to come out but im not trying to work till im 70years old eitherDude I'm glad you are happier at your job now.Every Southeastern driver I run into is very nice and I actually look forward to bumping into the ones on my route. We are all blessed to have decent jobs and, everyone is entitled to their opinions. It seems you exaggerate your numbers to justify your decision. In order to get 100 dollars per week into your 401k with a 3% match you would have to make around 165,000 per year. Its cool to just say you like Southeastern better as a company. Good luck and be safe.
Yea i took the job because it was the only place hiring in kansas city at the time as far as freight compainesfalconfan, remember, he is also mad about 15% that he never saw anyway, and took the job KNOWING about....
Im not telling you what to do or how to,do not sure of your hours over here but if the abf terminal can hire you as casual on the dock they can work with your schedule and atleast you would have your foot in the door and just work both jobsTired of waiting on Sefl to give up some cash. Went to ABF today and spoke to their terminal manager. They don't hire full time drivers. Only hire casual and then wait for someone to retire?!?
It's different within each region also. I don't want to give out too much info because these people I work for are a vengeful lot and would not hesitate to label me a union sympathizer after some of my posts in here. I have too many people depending on my income.Dang where you out of i know its diffrent per region for cost of living
It's easy to shutdown a small operation. They've grown to the point where its most likely not practical to shut it down. The media would eat them alive. It's also not the good old days anymore where either side shutting down an operation accomplishes much.Tobin would shut it all down before he lets a union in
I've heard Tobin say and I quote "we would NEVER allow a union in here, before we let them in and ruin what we have, we will lock the doors"Tobin would shut it all down before he lets a union in
http://www.aol.com/article/2015/09/...ng-grid7|main5|dl29|sec1_lnk3&pLid=-772289390Death of all union companies except for ups. I think they will end up buying another ltl company to increase market share. Probably when next recession hits as they will have the upper hand at that point.
Yes, too many retirees and too few workers to support them. The big question is will the government step in and save their pensions? I don't think so. In the past the democrats needed union support to gain power. Presently, the dems don't need union support anymore to keep power since the country has shifted to a welfare nation.
Informative. Thanks for that. Still holding power is much different than continuing to do so in coming years. Election year upswing is no surprise. The trend is still down significantly, however, a reversal may not be a bad thing.
I cry about long hours too. wouldn't cry so much if Sefl payed OT. Or better bennies. Or gave a pension. Or valued our years of hard work by honoring seniority. It's not like they can't afford it... Maybe the company will sell to dhl or ups so I don't lose my vacation time when I leave for better payAlmost $25 where I am and I'm a combo drivers, down here P/D Drivers work no more than 9 to 11 hr days. They cry a lot about long hrs.
What do you value more? Pension or 401k?I have an opportunity to hire on with SEFL and go through their driver training program. I have read mostly positive reviews on glassdoor and truckers report forum about them. I'm currently on seasonal layoff from YRC, I did their driver training program last fall and attained my class A but was put on layoff 1 week after my 30 days were up. So really I have very little experience with my class A since passing the road test last Sept. YRC is a very laid back environment and while my starting hourly is low for the industry it would continue to climb while I put my time in to maybe get a better shift over the coming years upon a lot of old timers supposedly retiring within 5 years. SEFL starting wage in Dallas is considerably higher and a M-F schedule to do P/D combo with top pay reaching 24.60. I believe most are averaging 50 hrs a week and while no OT it would still payout much better than if I stay at YRC and likely work across the weekends for the next how many years. I'm thankful to YRC for training me and helping me attain my class A and a job but have a feeling SEFL can offer me something a lil better for just starting out in LTL. A lot of great people over at YRC, it is a different world being union but there seems to be a brotherhood feeling there as well. I came from Sysco non union working 6 days a week for average 60-72 hr work weeks, I know what hard work is and also know that any LTL company I end up at will be far less taxing on my body. I worked union 13 yrs in Chicago before being laid off from DHL, never any guarantees with any of these companies. So while union benefits are a plus layoffs and buyouts are always a possibility anywhere.
