what area are you looking at?I really think Saia is going in the right direction and would like to run line-haul, but have zero courage to jump ship being that freight shipments seem to have fallen off. Any info would be great.
Greenville/Spartanburg SC.what area are you looking at?
How is this place to work for? Thinking of applying. But it would be at a new terminal in the northeast. How does linehaul work? Do they respect seniority? Can someone tell me what a typical night on linehaul would be?

A bunch of friends are asking me about Saia now that their having their job fair in Buffalo in a week or so. Their older guys 50 or older and are interested in linehaul. I told them to get it in writing you won't be out all week. They didn't believe me that Saia had system drivers out all week. I'll let them figure it out. I'll get home most days now and sleep at night.I guess the Greenville / Spartanburg area is run out of the terminal in Greer, SC. Google map the area and that is one pretty place and it is a smaller terminal. I've been doing linehaul, for over 2 decades, and I believe that smaller terminals are run less strictly and more personably than the larger terminals. I would rather work in a smaller terminal.
Saia has their rules and some seem petty , to me, but it's their house and their paycheck. You go to work, mind your own business, do your assignments safely, accurately, timely, and don't be a freaking boy scout or super trucker. Go to work, do your job, and then get the hell out of the way. you can make a nice living and build a retirement pot off of Saia.
If there is a Linehaul opening and you can get it, I would advise you to do so. If the opening is for a system driver, let's talk.
Are you now currently working at SAIA or are you speaking from knowledge you obtained elsewhere.A bunch of friends are asking me about Saia now that their having their job fair in Buffalo in a week or so. I have a few friends that work for them. Yes they've been on system runs. Are you now currently working at SAIA or are you speaking from knowledge you obtained elsewhere.
Big Buck is right. If you are working the system, then it is understood that you may be out all week. Like Big Buck posted, the system schedule is based on freight volume but I would also add vacation relief, at a different barn, short drivers, for whatever reason, and any number of other problems , that Central uses system guys to fix. System guys are a number to be plugged into whatever problem pops up. It's the nature of the beast.Sorry, but they would never agree to terms and put it in writing that a Linehaul person won’t be out all week. It depends on freight volumes.
Just like any other company you start at the bottom and pay your dues just like the low man does. But as you gain seniority you can move up relatively quickly. Especially during the expansion. Draculas whiskers gets him just about anything he wants. He’s paid his dues. Right Drac?Big Buck is right. If you are working the system, then it is understood that you may be out all week. Damn good money. You might want to consider the job. The perception of the cameras is far worse than the “realityofitall.”soon to open at 4253 albany st colonie ny 12205 in the former nemf building. job fair in 2 weeks at the desmond hotel. $31 an hour on p&d. camera knows and sees all.
I wish my wife was.You betcha but I'm low maintenance.
I guess it depends on the tax rate for New York. I personally would not like a camera constantly watching for me to make a mistake. Seems like stalkingDamn good money. You might want to consider the job. The perception of the cameras is far worse than the “realityofitall.”
