You stuffed rags around gearstick and emergency brake lever.
That was the government mandated anti skid brake system around 1978. It was a hurry up & do something government idea that had little forethought. Manufacturers had little time to develop what would be discontinued after a short time. Companies kept records on cost & accidents related to it. Kelsey-Hayes, Eaton & others manufactured them. One system would malfunction & apply brakes on some radio frequencies. Today's ABS systems are relatively trouble free compared to those.
It's not if you don't have it on your door.
