State’s Supreme Court allows 80,000-driver lawsuit against Swift to proceed

Drivers allege the Arizona-based company ignores drivers’ reports of actual miles driven and instead uses an artificial calculation that shorts mileage pay. Class participants are Swift drivers employed since 1998 who seek recovery of unpaid miles.
The bigger injustice isn't what miles they weren't paid for, but rather the mileage pay for the miles they were paid for!!

Well, check the skies for the 4 horseman of the apocalypse, there's something I agree with you on. I just looked at their 2015 pay scale. $0.25 p/m starting and $0.40 p/m running east after 5 years. This is based on a 300+ mile run.

Disgraceful. That's 3 cents less than Schneider was paying in 2000 when I started there.

Yeah. That 43,000 a year average for over the road would sure be hard to pass up...

I don't see how they can even get people to drive for them...

Wasn't the Nature Boy one of the original 4 horsemen??

Remarks by President Trump at Listening Session on Domestic and International Human Trafficking

https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-pres...-listening-session-domestic-and-international

"...and I want to make it clear today that my administration will focus on ending the absolutely horrific practice of human trafficking. And I am prepared to bring the full force and weight of our government to the federal and at the federal level, and the other highest levels, whatever we can do, in order to solve this horrific problem. It's getting worse and it's happening in the United States in addition to the rest of the world, but it's happening in the United States, which is terrible.

Human trafficking is a dire problem, both domestically and internationally, and is one that's made really a challenge. And it's really made possible to a large extent, more of a modern phenomenon, by what's taking place on the Internet, as you probably know. Solving the human trafficking epidemic, which is what it is, is a priority for my administration. We're going to help out a lot. "Solve" is a wonderful word, a beautiful word, but I can tell you, we're going to help a lot."

I wonder if Wilson will finally start paying overtime after this acquisition??

Eaton Looks to a Future of 48 Volt

Read more at: http://www.ttnews.com/articles/showtemplatetmc2017.aspx?storyid=45063

"It is just an architecture change from a 12-volt system, and “the power electronics to do it is not rocket science, either. I think we are on that cusp,” Larry Bennett, director of vehicle technology and innovation at Eaton Corp., told Transport Topics here Feb. 26 at the annual meeting of American Trucking Associations' Technology & Maintenance Council."

"Larry Bennett, director of the vehicle technology center for the vehicle group at Eaton Corp., explained during a presentation at the 2017 TMC conference that “electrification” of commercial trucks is going to become a more prominent trend – and as a result trucks will need to step up to a 48 volt environment."

NPS launches “Trooper in a Truck” program

"Lt. Von Minden says, “We run it just like we would run an enforcement effort with an aircraft. There is going to be a trooper or a sergeant in a truck with a radio. He is going to be observing traffic in and around that truck. There will be other officers stationed nearby and if he sees something that qualifies as dangerous behavior or a violation, he is going to call it out to other troopers in marked units and they will then stop the person and issue the appropriate enforcement memorandum.”"

Remote updates coming for Volvo trucks

http://fleetowner.com/maintenance/r...m=email&elq2=33bed79fdc6a4556ac2174b3e8d743ce

"Volvo is launching the over-the-air service because up to 75% of updates are currently being ignored because of the downtime involved in bringing a truck into a shop, Makki said during a briefing at the annual Technology and Maintenance Council meeting. “Downtime for doing upgrades in a shop currently averages 2.3 days, and we estimate that a truck out of service costs a fleet about $1,100 a day in lost revenue,” he said."

No surprise, Mack follows suit.

Starsky Robotics Sees 'Last Mile' Solution for Driverless Trucks

Read more at: http://www.ttnews.com/articles/base...utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=newsletter

"Our remote drivers will pilot trucks from the door of the distribution center to the highway, then remotely engage the autonomous system," Seltz-Axmacher said. "When the truck gets close to the off-ramp, another remote driver will take control of the vehicle" to its final destination.

Seltz-Axmacher said Starsky already has begun testing its system and expects to "remove human drivers from certain vehicles by the end of the year."

It is coming and those who keep saying never need to go apply at the Buggy Whip company. Will trucking jobs be replaced next year in mass, no. The race to reduce cost will eventually remove many delivery positions in our lifetime. Robotics, autonomous vehicles and drones will impact our industry.

Sounds like the city police running around in blacked out charter buses in DFW.
