Now we’re parking — automatically

"With the Electronic Logging Device rule set to take effect this year, many fear that it will decrease productivity and eliminate drivers by choice for those drivers that refuse to ever be monitored or measured, or out of necessity for any driver running two log books illegally. Automating truck parking could get drivers another 30-90 minutes of driving time per day. Let’s say that gets a fleet another 50 miles per day from a driver."

I want to see the automation back an autoshift to a dock, uphill, in tight quarters, smoothly and without drama.

YRC Remains Profitable, but Less So Than in Year-Ago Quarter

http://www.ttnews.com/articles/yrc-remains-profitable-less-so-year-ago-quarter

For YRC Freight, operating ratio — expenses as a percentage of revenue — deteriorated slightly to 96.5 from 96.2 in the 2016 second quarter. For YRC Regional OR deteriorated to 98.8 from 97.8.
YRC consulting partner, BRG Patel spokesperson Mops Patel commented that earnings from use of PTS resulted in -15 percent less late freight, mostly attributed to the weekend Gold team, who he would not identify for security reasons..in a related story, Patel denied rumors that a renegade dispatcher, known as the Hat, was instrumental in keeping the teams moving.

In an addendum to this report, another spokesperson, BJ Patel, cited that Gold Team member, Donna, was instrumental in keeping the Team out of low bridges and tunnels furthering their expedition of getting the freight in on time.

Automating truck parking is gonna buy us up to 90 minutes of driving time? How, exactly, is that going to work? There aren't enough parking spots as it is! And I've seen some abysmal backers, but I've never seen someone take 90 minutes to find a parking spot and get into it. I myself can get parked in under 10 most of the time.

The problem that nobody seems to understand is that OTR drivers have to start looking for a parking spot for the night up to two hours before they run out of driving time. Automating parking isn't going to fix that.

"The contract guarantees that Clare Rose will continue contributions to the workers’ pension plan, reversing the company’s withdrawal from the pension that precipitated the strike. It also maintains wages that are well above industry standards and Clare Rose’s April offer. The agreement ends the strike after 82 days in which none of the 130 union members crossed the picket line. Members will vote to ratify the agreement Saturday.

The workers received an outpouring of support from their Long Island neighbors over the nearly three month strike. Over three dozen local bars, stores, and restaurants boycotted Clare Rose, including Belmont Park and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. Thousands of Long Islanders signed petitions, posted their support on Facebook, and put boycott signs on their lawns.

“This strike captured the imagination of Long Island workers who want to see a win for working people,” said Ed Weber, President of Teamsters Local 812. “We don’t have to make concessions every time a company wants higher profits. I hope this is a sign of things to come. We can fight back and we can win.”

Agreed, but the potential savings of time envisions the driver pulling up to the fuel island line, going off duty and not dealing with the fueling/parking task. Still, for there to even be any potential savings, the driver would have to be consistently bumping up against the maximum hours limit. I don't want to be that driver...

An example of unity and the leverage it provides, as well as a proactive local, despite the hardball threat of being "replaced". :clapping:
