ABF | 2018 Contract

1. Economy is good
2. Driver shortage at an all
time high
3. Corporate tax cut of 15%
4. ABF , or should I say ArcBest is posting record profits and spending money like a drunken sailor
5. We are coming off of a contract loaded with concessions by us.

If we can’t negotiate a decent contract this year the handwriting is on the wall of what they think of us. Remember that the next time they ask you to carry a 400 lb. treadmill into somebody’s basement or sit by the phone because We may need you to come in at midnight on Sunday to strip trailers.
Dam right hammer.

Since when are we the only ones with something to lose. Theses guys with fancy titles and 6 figures should be worrying.
No vacation,no raises, no vote, easy enough.

It’s not apples to oranges. Carhaul has something like 5000 members. They claimed it was 8000. ABF has 7500 to 8000, and this is coming from the company and the teamsters so quit with your misleading crap.
Car haul is a specialized operation and predominantly Union....LTL is not anymore...that's a fact!

As a former car hauler, I can tell you that they are not "predominantly Union".......They used to be.........Now, they are just as fragmented as the LTL sector.

There was a rise in subcontracting carriers in the late '90's, that put new car transportation on any sort of "transport" vehicle,.....and opened up the door for O/O's to purchase that specialized equipment,...........and go cut each others' throats on a daily basis...........while underpricing Union car haulers. Three of my former car hauling employers,....M & G Convoy, Nu-Car Carriers, and Automobile Transport no longer exist.......

Anchor Motor Freight, and the Ryder group used to be the biggest players in new car transportaion............The two Union car haulers that are left,.....and employ the most Teamsters,........are Cassens and Jack Cooper...

There are others in smaller "niche" areas,...........but I think that Union car haulers lost 3/4ths of their members in the last two decades.........

So the company is pleading poverty, and to some degree rightfully so because of the need to replace vast amounts of tractors with newer smog compliant models. How do you convince the management they need to use profit $$ to buy tractors, as opposed to Teamster Paycheck $$ ???

They bought all new road tractors, 500 trailers a year or more and 200 new forklifts in the last 5 years.

You’re showing everyone how dumb you are. THATS A FACT! Carhaul is not predominantly union anymore. SMH
Ok, so the contractors have the equipment and specially trained drivers to absorb the car haul sector....my bad. I'm am glad you got a contract that you deserve. It took a year to get it settled on an extension? I don't remember hearing about a strike. ABF/ArcBest knows their labor will strike if asked to, my point is I don't think the IBT will call for one, but may be able to keep messing with it and keep kicking it down the road while UPSF and YRC begin negotiations also. Not so sure if that's good or bad.

Turncoat, no one @ ABF Freight cares what you think or your opinions.. "Everyone hears, but no one is listening".
Go back to YRC

I'm trying to be nice and not respond to your posts like you asked, my YRC career is over, so your just going to have to put up with me. Are you a "defacto" TB moderator now....no one can have a different point of view than you or they have to shut up? There's already a forum for that kind of one sided conversation.

Well since Sac and canary already addressed this I still have to add my 2 cents, You don't know about our contract in carhaul and it has been discussed on here also, FACT in the last vote it stated that if we voted it down we would be on strike it stated it right on the vote ballot, and this was the third time plus it was more than a year, And no we didn't vote just to get it right we said NO to their bull crap proposals 2 times, The boneheads (union) tried to push it ,Sorry try again and this was before all the tax breaks etc. And No I don't work at ABF i was with CFCC when the merge went thru But I still know many of the guys there from ABF and CFCC so I still feel bad for what has happened to the group

Can you just once...ONCE...not sound like a colossal kitty? "We ain't specialized no more, no reason to pay us!" Except that ABF basically has the...maybe the second-lowest pay in LTL currently after Judy's precious shopping spree giveback? Third lowest? Somewhere in there. If you feel your knowledge base doesn't qualify as "specialized" as an LTL driver, you may as well go work for Werner. Have some ****ing PRIDE, "driver." Alleged driver who just happened to show up before contract time.

Well...I don't recall seeing any fat boys scrambling a car hauler, not saying they might be some. You don't fill that driver's seat with just any clown that has 2yrs. OTR experience. Contrary to some some folks estimation, we at ABF, benefits included, are still the highest paid LTL drivers, and I think we will continue to be. They try to hire the best and I think we should be compensated as such.

Outside...looking in...with really no dog in the hunt....interesting...outcome really has no effect on you....hmm

I respect his opinion over yours any day. Your just a troll as far as I’m concerned.
Troll...by definition....Outside...looking in...with really no dog in the hunt, and no ballot coming in the mail, however many he may be worth

Well what would you say about someone like me? I no longer work for ABF, but I sincerely want the best for you guys. I know from personal experience just how hard you work, and the fact that you had to give up unnecessary concessions in 2013 makes me sick. I have no dog in the hunt, but I'm still active on the board, and trying to add my opinions when I can. Am I a troll?
