6 city men laid off on Friday in GR. Did't even break all inbound loads. We are fairly busy with over a million lbs outbound 3 days this week. This just leaves all of us amazed at the idiotic decisions Management keeps making on a daily basis. Most days we still have guys peddleing freight at 5pm.The customer used to be #1 at Holland. Not anymore. It seems like they are happy when there is discontent within the ranks.Take your lunch before your sixth hour, but screw the customer that closes at 4pm.I could go on and on I'm so pissed.

Maybe they are prepairing to ask for another pension stop in 2011.Don't think they should waste their time. By the way they also laid off 6 Friday in FW. How far do they think they can stretch us ? Can only do so much in a day.

You can`t fix STUPID!!!!

Well, hell! I was called back last week, and took a leave-of-absence, till the end of April. Wanted to watch and see how the company is doing before I go back. Still doesnt look good. At least the stocks are finally crawling back up. Slowly crawling! But thats better than dropping.

layoff

The stupid part about the layoffs in GR, is that we have an assisstant terminal maneger starting on Monday. That gives us 11 supervisors to 82 city men. Go figure.

they called back 2 in dayton. the two that were laid off on friday Placed them on the open board.... Too bad we have the bottom 8 forced on veloicity bids. but at least these two will have a chance at making some money this week

Sounds like maybe the same happening at JO. No confirmation yet except hearing bill count up, bagging loads and more layoffs. You're right, you can't fix stupid. I hear it may be up to 7 guys.

well they have run out of people to blame so now they are blaming the customers for not paying their freight bills. heard right from the tms mouth thats the reason for the recent layoffs. for the last month they couldnt work enough people.wow who would have thought that holland would ever come to this. face it guys, this place is doomed, there might be a yellow around but i doubt you will see holland. equiptment is junk. dollys will hardly crank on the trailers and the doors hardly open and close cause they havent seen a grease gun in 2 years. like i said before who would have ever thought that holland would come to this. sad.

5 city guys lais off Friday in AT. I have done my best to stay positive....It seems we are not doing the things that have made this company great. We've always serviced our customers freight without exception, but we had 2 days in Atlanta last week when we non-serviced freight. This is in fact contrary to what our "core values" are. We put 14 city loads on the yard thurs. night !!!I really thought that when the stock swap was complete, we would be doing everything possible to gain lost customers back and get back on track to do what we do best. I asked our termnal manager on Friday about the freight that was not serviced and he said and I quote " we have to change the way we think" So I replied ask R&L how many loads they didn't work or any of our competitors for that matter??? We have to be in this thing with both feet or the market will weed us out. This has to be a YRC mandate, cause there's no way the Holland I've worked for would ever sacrifice service to save man hours. Maybe we're worse shape than we all know and this is just a desperate attempt to keep the doors open. What else could it be????

Same thing in south bend 4laid off city guys and 3 from the road. It was explained to me that we have a cash flow problem and this is their way of not paying our insurance. I know our terminal is over 30% over time and yet they still laid off. We had more work than we could handle, dock closing when velocity guys started rolling in. We needed more manpower not less. I'm wondering if they will call us back or pay us for not working when we file the grievance for them violating the overtime provision. Its seems to me that someone dropped the ball when they did the last contract that allows the company to layoff with so much forced overtime. Sad thing is we are getting a lot of the freight we lost back and even some new accounts. These people in charge should know revenue lags a bit behind a upturn in freight. Lets screw up and not have enough manpower and lose the customers by not giving them the service they deserve.

We filed grievances for the 25% rule violations almost two years ago. Our TM refused to give us the numbers required to calculate the overtime. Last week (finally) we got the numbers. It has been determined that at least 20 full weeks will be paid out to a few different guys because they were not called back, per the 25% rule. In my opinion, these drivers deserve the full weeks pay, per the contract. But, how stupid can a company be......if they are willing to pay people to sit home and get no productivity out of them? The language is in the contract, yet they violated it anyway. The company should require the TM to pay these wages out of his own pocket. Then it wouldn't happen again.

That's what the 25% rule was put in there for. Use it.

Does anyone ever wonder why the profits aren't going up, even after you donated your 15% and pension? 20 full weeks of pay, could have been profit for a small barn. Poof!!!! Gone!!!!

in birmingham we have been told that holland was going to make a profit this qtr come h#ll or highwater
the tm has been told not to trigger anyone back on and to do what he had to do and also not to deliver any outlying areas as much.we also laid off 3 city drivers for this week.

layoffs = YRC

Heres the scoop as told to me here in CL. YRC is on the verge of showing a profit for the 1st quarter of 2010, and the word is that from the top that some genius with a masters degree in numbers delegated to each Tm how many men they are to work per day. The Tm's are not to exceed this number for the next 3 weeks until the quarter is over. Overtime, Service, and Grievances are not to be any factor what so ever. Makes no sense to me but thats the way it was told to us. Here in CL they mandated that they are not to work more than 100 city men per day. Overtime is sky high, service to our paying customers suck and any grievance filed will not be look at or payed to until after 5 weeks. Not to mention a room full of road drivers sitting on the clock for long periods of time. I dont see how any of this is saving the company money due to the fact that we have guys sitting at home and the company still needs to pay health and welfare??? The service to the customers is just like yellow, delivering next day freight two to three days later!!! We struggled to get confidence back in our customers which in turn bill counts have been higher but now they are starting to say WTF!!! We came back to Holland for this? I just dont understand can someone enlighten me?

..... and Grievances are not to be any factor what so ever.
Another example of them not seeing the big picture. They don't care if they cause grievances that will cost them money in the near future, as long as it doesn't cost them any money today. (and they say that we "just don't see the big picture".) Not to mention, what does the attitude of an employee do when we are forced to file a grievance after getting screwed over? That's right. The attitude gets worse. Oh ya, we're just a number anyway. What was I thinking?:duh:

this company will never survive bottom line. it dont take no masters degree to figure that out this week. what a complete operational disaster this week. good job yellow.
