XPO | Big changes coming for linehaul

e
Based on lmtd info we're getting from mgmt, l/h runs as we know them will be a thing of the past. Get ready for lay downs. Brad Jacobs has said numerous times "drivers will be getting more miles". Anywhere within 10 to 11hrs of your sic is possible, depending on where you are geographically. As far as jsp, we may not know what bid options will be for a while yet. And seniority at some sics will change. Jacobs said, thru synergy, smaller unprofitable terminals will be shut down, so there will be dsrs transferring throughput the system. Not right away, but it will happen. And there may be some dsrs close enough to retirement who choose to leave rather than change. These are just a few of many changes in our near future.
Glad I left Conway 9yrs. ago, and went to #1 LTL They treat you like dog dirt, maybe XPO will do better, I doubt it. But there will be some, or maybe huge changes. I really don't know what and how you can change the LTL business, other than keeping experienced workers that care, and get treated fair, as well as in their paycheck.

True cause we might go back on mtys but we have to pack the loads. It just doesn't make sense to have damages. That's losing money not flooring out 4 trailers instead of going high n tight in 2!!!
At my barn they send 2 day freight through headed south , but instead of making a headload for the destination and putting our freight on the tail IT'S ALL MIXED TOGETHER! Why !?!

We ask the driver coming back on linehaul and he says FOS made him load everything together - WHY?!? Now freight has to be handled again for no good reason.

And don't get me started on the empty kite that gets dropped in the yard ( coming back from the same FAC ) and the lead that's so full the door is bulging and you have to use your lift to open the door....
This still happens an is ENTIRELY AVOIDABLE with common sense.

rumors are usually started by linehaul drivers, they hear stories from different terminals and other linehaul drivers, then get dilerious when they nod behind the wheel and stories blend into one.

Never made any sense. If you are pulling four trailers, you are good for four trailers. Either way the numbers are bad and management are gonna be pissed. Don't pull empty, don't floor load. How about get me four trailers worth of freight ?

If you had a tool that could reduce damages on your dock, wouldn't you use it ? Well, we have these extra trailers in some lanes. Why aren't we using them ?

Remember when we had head loads and pures and FOSs would get written up for doing stupid ::shit:: like breaking a pure just for numbers ? The assault on common sense is never ending.

Empty trailers don't affect their load factor, or whatever the stupid metric is that's used to gauge loading efficiency. So an empty trailer means nothing, but put one skid on it and the numbers go to hell. Crap like that is ridiculous.

Load factor is all the rage at my place too. Linehaul Manager calls me at 6:30pm and says: "Can you get it all into ONE trailer tonight?" Yeah, right. I send trailers out every night at 40 sometimes 30%....it's called spillover.

The cost of a empty is charged to Linehaul expense across the
whowhole system. If a trailer is manifested with 1 shipment then the cost is charged to the service center. Something to that effect.

You can thank upper mgmt for that bs. Hiring nothing but yes-men nowadays for fos's, gotta make those #'s. Not to mention all the dsr's and dock workers who fall for the fear mongering when it comes to how much freight you dock vs how much freight you load. God forbid we dock a little freight in order to load a trlr right

They need to remember service sells. Linehaul can be modified anywhere but the freight still needs to get there asap damage free. We use Covenant at Pyle for extra loads and while some drivers there are great many can't keep up the nightly pace.

An empty is also written off as a business loss as relocating equpiment.

They probably get to write off all the tore up freight. Is this a game of how to write off the biggest loss possible ? Or move the freight as cheaply as possible ?
