My Google Chromebook boots in about 7 seconds or less...the technology is out there.

And it's cheap. IDK what they're thinking..I dont understand a lot of ****..

i timed it the other day. If the handheld hangs up, it takes over 4 mins from reboot till the time you get to the home screen where you can scan a pro.

Oh yeah, and you just wasted 4 mins. of time and about only 1 minute of my life, because I'm using my chromebook.

You are right. It also allows management to "be in the cab" and sends a message that the idea of a driver being "the captain of their own ship" is dead. The driver is only the "in charge" and responsible if there is a problem.
