Two bits - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Two bits is a colloquial expression in the United States for 25 cents. It dates from colonial days, when a common unit of currency was the Spanish milled dollar. As a way of making change, these dollars were often[vague] cut into eight pie-slice shaped pieces, called "bits." Each eighth-dollar bit was then worth 12.5 cents, so that two bits were equal to a quarter dollar.

One source of the term's continued modern notability comes from the line "Shave and a Haircut" and the response of "two bits." Another is the common American sports cheer, "Two bits, four bits, six bits, a dollar . . . all for (player's name), stand up and holler!"

Copied & pasted from a recent news article.

The intransigence of Reddaway's Teamsters makes more payroll cuts likely at YRCW. The entire trucking industry is being hurt by slack demand for LTL hauling and high fuel costs. The last thing YRCW needs to worry about are union demands that add uncertainty to its projected payroll expenses.

I've given more than I wanted to so I'm not giving anything as long as they give the F'n upper management million dollar bonuses & then cry about the teamsters & there cruel contracts.
