Scrabble, I've been in your shoes. The difference is I chose a different path in life than you. I once worked for P.I.E. and they wanted givebacks from the Teamster employees. They started out asking for an ESOP plan (employee ownership bullshi-) voluntary of cause. When they didn't get the amount of Teamsters they wanted to give back their wages they started a campaign of harrassment on us who would not participate. When that didn't work they got our so called union to call for a vote on it ( YRC STYLE). I worked too hard for my pay and left after 10 years with them and started at the bottom at a Roadway terminal. 20 years later the same bullshi- at YRC appears with our unions backing and I left and retired. What I'm trying to say to you is sometimes you have to make hard decisions in your life to support your family, I did, maybe you have not and that is why it's miserable to go to work everyday. Don't blame retired teamsters for the problems occurring on the job now. We took many stands in our days and you guys would probably be better off now if you fought back a little harder against these givebacks. Good luck brother in the end we all are still Teamsters.

Suppose you were not at a non-union truckline and there were three LTL trucking companies in your area. All paid the same pay rate. Your company decides to cut your pay 15%. Would you vote with your feet or would you just stick around because you are afraid to lose your job? The only thing holding people in this job is their time in the worthless pension.

Even if all the companies on that list would still be in business today, and contributing as usual, the pensions they paid into would still someday in the future fail and collapse. The payouts at the levels that were promised could not be maintained. All those companies would have to have a ever increasing number of new employees added to the 'pool'. No company can and will grow forever to out-pace the eventual 'pension pay-out wall'.

I can tell you from first hand knowledge that many people in many different fields have taken pay cuts in recent years. The messed up economy has a lot to do with the miserable conditions so many of us are dealing with currently.

I agree with you 100%. I have long felt that too many (if not all) pension plans were nothing more than glorified Ponzi schemes destined to fail eventually.

I worked at PIE in Albuquerque in 1982, back when they would work you as a casual just as long as they could and then never call you again.
Mud, you've got more time in the sh**ter than most of the guys on this board have on the face of the earth!

In the East you made seniority on your 16th day in a 60 day period back in those days. You could work casual for years just keeping track of your days and rotating among all the Teamster jobs around. Kept track of your days on each job just like you kept track of your hours for DOT.

At the time I was working as a casual at Roadway as well. If PIE would of put me on full time I would of gone with them. As it turned out after PIE quit calling me, Teamsters Local 492 forced Roadway to put two casuals on full-time. And one of them was mud.

Not necessarily. When I started my first trucking job out at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in 1973, who knows how many years Triplex (and a few others on here, to many to mention, ) already had in as a Teamster. Imo.

At least when PIE went out there were still a few Teamster jobs around to go to. Little bit different today and definitely not getting any better. We lived in good times didn't we.

Your right Triplex, we did live in good times. What I'm trying to say is if a current YRC employee is tired of getting screwed everyday and hates the working conditions and feels as if there will not be a pension for him when he retires, why stay. To some a YRC job is no better than any other trucking job. Go to another carrier or better yet a new career to better yourself and provide for your family. Being misrable going to work everyday takes years off your life. I'll collect my pension for as long as it lasts and then will start earning a living doing something else. It's horrible what's happening to all of us Teamster brothers working or retired. We all do not deserve what is being done to us.

One of my happiest days was when Roadway put me on full time. I went round and round with their supervisors and terminal managers for years but would still be there if not for the buyout and merger.

YRCW should focus more on re financing loans on paying the CSPF as they do on re financing loans for the company then turn around and give themselves a bonus with the savings

I worked and delivered freight all around Albuquerque and the surrounding areas for 28 years. I've never lived in Albuquerque. For the past 27 years I've lived in Jemez Springs, 50 miles north, population about 350. The story you read is just another story about the getting more crazy world we live in.
Albuquerque and surrounding areas are a very nice place to live. Pretty much nice weather all year round. One of the first things I noticed here was how much better people get along ( not perfect ) as compared to se Michigan (Detroit ) where I moved from. The population of the entire state is under three million. The population of Albuquerque is about 500,000. Not bad for an urban area.

Not passing any judgement mud, just providing more information.
