Smitty,
Welcome to Truckingboards. Since you referred to a feeder job, I'm assuming you're talking about UPS, not UPS Freight, right? By all means, take the job at UPS......it's a top notch job.

Be carefull, although it may pay well you will be going into the holiday season and you may not work come jan. But it is an excellent poosition to have.
And welcome to the boards by the way...

My new jobclass is "Freight Redundancy Specialist".

This Person will have the ability
to tolerate mentally challenged dispatchers
who excell in the art of ignorance redundancy,
and can withstand driving 18 wheelers at
top end speeds in circles.

1st off , welcome to TB .

While this quote is usually the case in the past . We have recently moved nearly all of our piggyback work off of the trains and put it over the road to improve service times .

Our seniority list in my district has gone from 150 drivers to nearly 400 in the last three years . There have been no layoffs ( in my district ) in that time . Now would be the best time to get into Brown .

thanks for all the replys guys what i was asking is how much do you thank i would work being on call i need more then a then a day or two a week thanks for the welcome

Unfortunatly thats the LTL business..

its hard to break into the ranks of any good LTL company anytime, and hardier yet when freight is in a slump.

We all had to come up the same way.
Unless some were very blessed and walked into a full time spot such as I did when I first hired on with Overnite 20 years ago.
(I Thank & praise God for that gift)

But before that with all the Teamster union LTL's I worked at,it was a long drawn out process.

You get yourself in by being there whenever they need you, willing to work any shift,or class.
Dock,City,Yard switicher,or Road.
Untill something opens up more steady.

Than you go on the lay-off list untill more are hired under you,and you come around to a safer place on the senority list.

Its almost like becoming a doctor.
It takes years before you can get work every day with overtime.

Now if you want to try truck load?
Most of them are paying sign on bonuses to get full time drivers.

Only bad thing about working in that end of the trucking industry.
Those companies will hire anyone thats healthy,as well as can speak, and read english.

The down side is they can get you going down the road, but they have a very hard time getting you back to your house.

Yup its a hard racket to get into, but what do you need to know?
Turn on the key, shift the gears, and aim it.

One other thing its good to know, what the (R) is for on the gearshift handle with all those numbers.

Oh my its so much fun playing in traffic, and you meet some very interesting people as well.

You not only get all this, you also get to see the sights, almost like taking a driving vacation, but you get paid to do it.
Now I ask you, what more could you ask for?

This is why you should check out UPS before UPSF . While freight may be down , our package volume is at an all time high ( for this time of year ) . Especially if your near a metro area .

And we are using purchase power....Guys sitting at home and we are giving work to a cut rate freight horror.....Run as fast your legs will carry you to another carrier....

Thanks for the tip greezy.

Your a lot of fun keep up the post marathon.
Maybe you'll make the worlds record for the most posts on any computer message board?

I know you have a very good start on these trucking boards.

Hows that greezy?

One of the things you learn, being a trucker for most of your life.
Is the fine art of sarcasum.

Believe me when I say some of the customers I deal with daily, you know good sarcasum is by all means an art form.

Its amazing what I can get away with saying as long as I talk fast, and am smiling.

It sure is a lot of fun being me.
