XPO | looking at jobs

Can't wait hope to hear hear something back soon in the near future...my good friend has his own trucking company n went with him this weekend for a short run got to do some driving (174 miles) and I can't wait to get on the road.

To answer the question, I run mostly city p and d. We can fill in for hub drivers out and back and fill in on the dock.We have enough combo drivers now at our barn that I am not forced into running nights . I can pass to next man. Combos do not run extra board. I do run some Saturday turns for extra money. I volunteer for that, not forced.

I would honestly go with Conway and their driver student program. With a fresh cdli don't think too many companies might consider you as a candidate just yet.

One thing is for sure, having Conway in your work history makes you a very desirable prospect.

The DSS program also lets you get familiar with the LTL industry. There's a difference between a truck driver and an LTL driver IMHO

Been at Conway 30 plus years. It is not what I signed up for the new employees are worked like mules. If I were new starting out? I would go yellow or penn. Hope this helps

Wow, can't believe how many CWF guys are saying people should go to Yrc and New Penn. I've heard it's bad but dang. I work for USF Reddaway I like my job a lot but wish our pay was where yours is. But then again had a buddy put his 2 weeks in to be a owner op and they fired him and escorted off the property. He was there like 8yrs or so. This vid reminds me of it. Lol.

Well you hear about terminals having union votes. And you see all the changes they are making and you start to wonder. And then the president quits and takes his boys with him and you really start to wonder.

One look on the internet and you will find there are A LOT of very good trucking jobs out there. I'm not talking about running down ramps hauling food or dealing with the LTL circus. It's all a matter of what you want. It's out there. The shortage is real. There are companies out there willing to pay to get it done. And there are a lot of guys going back into owning their own truck. It's a drivers market.

I would look at UPS freight 1st. Followed by NEMF. Both are union companies and both have solid pension plans. Other very good companies are ODFL,FedEx freight, Estes and Pyle.

Well after I did all the leg work going to terminals I put applications in at new Penn and ward.
Personally, I'd put in applications everywhere I could and get as much info as I could on every company. Then consider the info you get doing research like this, plus what you seen at the companies and rate them from best to worst and see who calls you back.

As a new driver, if you have a lot of choices, great, but many do not. While I would not try to BS you and tell you that CW is a great place to start out, it is not. But I would not call it a waste of time if it's all you can get, it is still experience that could help you land a better job down the road.

That's exactly what happened to me at Con-way!! I offered 2 weeks and was escorted off the property like a criminal!
