ODFL | Need some Help!!!!!!

I got this from the SIAA board posted by gonzo0505....
Do any one from saia know how far back the go for back ground checks? i have a misdmeanor in april of 98, not sure if it will disquilfy me from the job.... any input will help
Did you tell O.D. about this when you applied or did O.D. find out about this and fire you??? Ive seen this happen more than once.

ya they new about it i have always been honest about that, that was apart of my life that i wont for get plus hr at old D said it was over 7 years ago that i would be fine. thats why i was asking on saia you never no. i wont apply if i dont have a chance thats why i cant ever go to Yellow, Roadway, or abf cause they go back a life time.. but yeah OD did no about it. they fired me cause of my dumb mistake.

I don't know if this thread is real or not.

I do know this, when I was hired at OD it was made perfectly clear to me that a roll off was an immediate termination. There was a rolloff at the El Paso terminal by a driver from my terminal. He had to ride home with single drivers or get a bus/plane home.

yeah its the number 2 on perventable accidents. like i said i screwed up and know this, i guess it makes it right, or does it, all driver's make mistakes you know. i'll i can say im sorry, and i know it wont happen again but thats not enough!!!!!! thats the think i was cleared to work and worked another 3 days after the accident and then next thing i know was i was grounded from driving and only permeted to work on the dock and today i find out all together that i have been terminated pending a appeal. but Like the vp of safty said thats not going to mean a damn thing in his words.

What ever happens you still can call corporate. Ask to speak to one of the VP.s and plead your case. If I thought I was going down I would D*m sure go down loud and proud.
:realmad:

Hey Gonzo,
I dont know if what i tell you will make you feel better, but i can only tell you what i know. Od's policy is that a roll away is a firing offense.

Im on the run i have now because the driver didnt set the brakes and the set rolled back and pinned him between two trailers. It didnt hurt him too bad, but he had to file workers comp...etc...this was not his first injury either. That may have had something to do with OD firing him....who knows?

I do have the priviledge of knowing two of the drivers on the so called hearing committee. They are very reasonable and fair guy's.

Just go and talk to them and explain what happened..Personally, i dont see you getting fired on this one...i pray you dont. But thats just my 2 cents.......Hope your wife is doing well.... Good luck to you Gonzo

hey logger head thanks for the prayer's. i hope i dont get fired and i hope you are right that the two guys on the commity are fair. i say it again and agin in no it was stupid and sometimes your personal life does interfear with your job weather you you are driving or just sitting around you always have you family on your mind. but i no i was wrong, very wrong for even going to work but since im still some what new i needed the money and didnt know how the company would react on me calling in. but yeah my wife just got out of the hospital on monday, and now she is having to deal with the news with me not having a job..

Life is tought but but i do beleave "god does not give more then you can handle" and trust me im bearly hanging on. thanks again for your prayers..

no i have not gone anywhere dont have the money to go out there, they had there meeting late yesterday and i got a phone call about 2:30 this afternoon, that i have been terminated and that my appeal would be heard some time early next week. so i call vp of safty mr. ****** and to be honest he is not the nice's person to talk to he was very rude and to be frank he didnt care weather or not my wife almost died. i told him i dont have the money to go to the metting but would like to have a phone conf. with them and he said it would not matter but he said that they would call me and it was going to be a short, short call, it seemed like it was not up to the commitee but up to him.

Sorry to hear that Gonzo...I wish i could tell you you something positive, but .......

Hope you can work things out over the phone...... good luck to ya pal.....Hope your wife continues to improve...

that the way ****** is very nasty dave needs to fire him. dont get me wrong od is a good company but buddy there is alot better out there for you an your family give con way a call the pay a lot more then od.

I don't know if it is true or not...But if it is , he will most likely lose his job.Things happen, but , considreing the circumstances, maybe things will go in his favor.....

if you had this happen...then im truly sorry and wish you the best
if not..and big jim has the resources to find out, then go someplace else as OD does not need liars and we dont either
