XPO | Pay rasie or better benefits?

I do the same with my 7am start, 25 years in. Only difference is I want to make things better for the future workers, not the mindset I got mine & it sucks for them....
Never going to see it in the future either... just sayin....

I always love this topic. Pay raise or better benefits?
To start we need to look at why what we are getting paid and benefit plan isn't enough? I going to put my views out there.

1.The BIGGEST reason you pay and benefits is lacking is TAXES and more TAXES.
When you get elected officials in office that are tax and spend and don't control govt expenses you taxes go up.
2. Govt regulations
This is sooooo simple.
I have a higher % of my paycheck left back in 2006 than I do now and I was making $6 to $7 buck less than I do now. Think about it yes cost go up but so did my pay.
The problem is the govt regs are out of hand and drove the cost higher than my pay. Obozocare destroyed the healthcare system. A family was to see an avarge of $2,500 lower healthcare premiums. So XPO family did you see any savings? I sure didn't
New EPA regs also drove up the operating cost of companies causing them to charge more for goods and serves.

What good is $50/hr if a gallon of milk cost you $30

and here a little clip from a show and it about wage

Think about why the gov has not went with a 10 percent flat tax? All articles I have seen on thissays they would take in more$$ than now. The exception being, everyone, including all the big corps, and their phony hidden subsidiaries pay the same 10percent. Your paying close to 20 percent now. Just think. No more April tax forms, no more IRS, no estimating taxes, and you have more money to spend in this economy. But no one in DC wants to talk about doing that. Too many political groups would not get their grease money for lobbying..

Yes a flat tax is great. That would mean everyone would pay and I mean everyone even the lazy asses on welfare. The flat tax would have no tax credits or deduction. I tired of paying more in taxes because I don't have kids its BS.
The reason no Pres has introduce this flat tax is because no Pres what the lose of so many job on his hand. Think of all the companies that make there living on the current tax laws.

Job loss within a government agency that probably has 20-30 percent too many employees already? I say cut em! They will find work, just like the rest of us would have to....

If our top executives ever asked you or the other employees what you want more , which would it be?

More money as far as pay?

Or , better benefits ( retirement , healthcare , uniforms , etc. )

Personally , if the choice was an equal one , I'd take the better benefits. No one ever asks us over the past few years , about what employees prefer - in the past the at least made an attempt to do surveys and what not.

How bout we just end the socialist/communist income tax and property tax on residential homes, and return to the capitalist system of tax on profit, tariffs on imports.

Who is more important? The taxpayers of this country, or employees of probably professions like lawyers, and accountants, who will always have business? They have other sources of business income. Me. I am stuck as a truck driver, since I never did finish getting my law degree....

I think the reason they have not gone to a flat tax is they lose control of the money & ability to hide a lot of issues that would come with that kind of tax. von.

Benefits ! Why? We paid nothing for our health insurance years ago when I hired on...that’s a long gone benefit. We used to get huge icp bonuses annually...those have long since evaporated. We used to get an annual benefit booklet in the mail telling us how our pension was doing and how much we’d get after 30 years of service...no more, those booklets stopped coming in the mail eons ago, and so did the pension accrual updates with them.
Yes, I could go on and on...but I think you get the message, we make relatively good money for doing our jobs, but we’ve lost more ground in real benefits that can never be replaced by paultry annual increases.
Just my 2 cents.

I guess there's more to this thread than where people have gone with it:

Even without a union and/or the government providing fully paid healthcare , there's nothing stopping employers from offering fully paid medical coverage.

Put it like this - all benefits have a cost , that cost is a part of an employee's total compensation. Allow the cost to be passed along to the employees like it is with other benefits. Companies pick what benefits to offer based largely on what will attract and retain good employees.

Offering fully paid , top to bottom healthcare at XPO would solve several problems and save some money ( one could argue )
1.) Immediately would save money by not having to fight unionization ( I'm sure there would be those still wanting to organize but honestly , would there be enough if a gesture like this was made? )
2.) Turnover would drop dramatically. Recruiting employees would be easier. Getting good , family oriented people would follow having top healthcare
3.) Free advertising. If top to bottom healthcare were offered , it would be news. Good publicity for a company that has had negative headlines quite a bit lately
4.) And finally , for the executives , they wouldn't look like clueless , follow-the-leader , copycats. Instead of gimmicky B.S. , this type of move would inspire loyalty and dedication while lifting morale.

I'm not a fan of increasing government and lately unions haven't been able to fight the money and political power of these large corporations.

All it would take is one large company to do this and the dam would break. Take cell phones for example. For years , service providers told us it was too expensive to have unlimited. It wouldn't work. It's better the way it is. Then one company offered unlimited , and boom!!! Everyone is offering unlimited ( sorry Canada ) Healthcare can be the same.

Your pretty quick on the draw WiggleWagon....The post was from DEC. 5TH 2016....Continue on pounding square blocks in round holes....
Are you a XPO driver? I don't know but I do not think so. If you are not a fellow employee I don't care about the date. I stand by what I said.

There are a lot of drivers for other companies that have a great deal of experience and offer fantastic insight and opinions. Their comments are often appreciated. For the rest. There is an ignore button. When you log in it won't show those posts at all. Works great.
