i recieved a call from a b/a about the coo's .
seems all those 40 dock workers going to newburgh have to have a CDL ,maybe im not looking outside the box enough ,but if you have a cdl doesnt that make you a driver instead of a dock worker :duh: . and as i was told the extra work at this barn will be handled by 4 hour casuals. So i ask again WHO'S GOT OUR BACK . not every1 is made for the road .some probably couldnt pass it if the had rest of there lifes . and some just dont like driving .its not for every1 .guys that drive dont want to handle freight again ,and we dont wannna drive so we are just kicked to the curb at the least we lost 52 dock worker this coo :nutkick: how can the union allow this to happen AND WITH OUT AS MUCH AS A WHIMPER FROM THE TEAMSTERS:hide: SOOOOOO whos got our back ?????

Are you suggesting something $ini$ter is going on? I wonder how many dock workers with substantial seniority will lose their jobs?
I wonder if the IBT is aware of this! Just how much "flexability" does this company need? How many times do you want to move your family in one lifetime? I pray the IBT has our backs brother!

IBT= International Brotherhood of Turncoats. Unless you work for UPS...you got your back. Hoffa is a YRC ***** and a company c/// s//////. And I voted for the punk lawyer son of a real man!

cdl for coo...

just like richmond and newburgh, you MUST possess a CDL to work there....this change is NOT offering any losing DOCKWORKER any opportunity even if they wanted to go....I thought drivers, dock and UE were all being kept separate in this coo..........thanks ROADWAY... we appreciate ya...::nutkick::chairshot::1036316054:

My son is still in wage progresion at 342, in order to become a Regular / Fulltimer, he had to get his CDL, he does not drive, only takes Dock Work He still had to get his CDL. Mustache Retired Roadway:smilie_132:

313 MKE for as long as I remember has always been dock/CDL. If I recall about 2 years ago the CO. wanted to change it to non/CDL requirement for dock but the Union rejected that idea.

The UE will be replacing most of the dock. It is nothing more than a reclassification of job desription. Therefore, in order to protect your job, you need to have cdl requirements. The UE will be loading, unloading, and driving. Instead of being on the dock all day, they will load a truck, run it, unload, possibly reload, and run home. The 4 hour casuals, will be filling in on the dock for the guys that are now on the road. It seems like a no brainer to me. Cover your own back. Get the license, become a UE and keep your job. What is so bad about loading and unloading one truck per day and taking a nice leisurely drive in the countryside?

Every barn in Kansas City has always been a combo barn for the thirty years I've been in the Teamsters. And in all COO's, it always been required to come into KC, you must have a CDL.

sounds like to me its all good specially to those who already have that cdl .how about any of you guys out there that never wanted to drive a tractor ,never could drive 1 , or have done it and just hated it ?for 18 years ive filled these trucks high and tight so you all could just jump in them and go and now im being told its just reclassifacation .i say its stealing jobs away from hard working brothers and sisters and giving it to new 4 hour casuals to do it . guess i know whos got our backs

The choice to get your cdl & protect your job is totally up to you. When I first started driving, all I had to do was deliver & pick up the freight. Have the customer sign the bill and sign my bills of lading. Then I would write everything down on my manifest. I also had to maintain all the endorsements on my license, including Haz-Mat....it was part of the job. Through the years, new technologies & procedures were added. I had to stay on top of those technologies also. From 2 way radios, to Nextel, to on board computer, back to newer nextel....I had to learn stuff in order to keep my job. My title was truck driver, not computer specialist. The point is, I did what was needed to be done to keep my job. So, instead of whining, complaining, and blaming someone else, get the license and keep your job. Cover your own back and stop looking for others to take care of you. This isn't rocket science:duh:

i wonder how much this will cost the company now, i'm sure they think it will save the company down the road of course but all i see is we're making more management jobs and they'll never get laid off dock to sup ratio is lowest ever i think, maybe we should pay them 14 hr and work mgmt 4 hours

May I add that there will be a few that can't get a cdl for reasons beyond their control. So for them we just throw them in the pit? Guess it's tough guys cause 67% of us thought it was a good contract. :nutkick: Just food food for thought that you overlooked Animo, no judgement intended, I know you ment no harm. :1036316054:

need a cdl...

I agree, for physical reasons, some may not be able to get cdl to keep their jobs.... it should always remain a choice...when it becomes a mandate, we're gonna lose alot of good teamsters who have dedicated their lives (and sometimes families) to the freight.:greedy:

I wonder, out of the gaining dock terminals which ones don't require a CDL. Off the top of my head Memphis and Akron maybe St. Louis. DS.

OK, not trying to sound like an /// here. But this is what I see.
UE-unloads and loads his own trailer. Plain and simple. There will be no more straight dock, except 4 hour casuals. The writing was on the wall with the contract proposal. But noone wanted to accept it.
IF there's another contract, MOST, if not all, employees will be UE.
I don't give a flying %#@$ if they told you this or sent a memorandum that said that. Their plan is obvious. Just open your eyes.
There might be a few road men left if there's another contract. But all dock and most/all road men will be no more.:nutkick:

since we're gonna hire 4 hour casuals now, better off line loading the trucks cause i've seen new hires back in 06 damage a couple million dollar accounts away from the company, i don't think we can afford to lose a couple more of those accounts when we hire the "4 hour guys"

looks like we are all finished .WILL THE REAL TEAMSTERS PLEASE STAND UP :hide: should we all just hand in our union cards and hang up our skirts now since there seems to be no more fight left in any1. i give up .every1 run out get a cdl bump every1 behind us out of work and some of us can work for a while. why worry about the future or a pension .seems like all the good ol teamsters are dead already anyways:chairshot:

vote noooooooooooo

a REAL union would vote "NO" in a heartbeat for this coo.... it's our own necks in the noose.....How about it TEAMSTERS? Grow some....:nutkick::chairshot::1036316054:

Wolf,

I understand the predicament.
I also voted against this contract, but,
I was in the minority. I'm just saying that those that do have the opportunity to protect their jobs, should do whatever it takes to do so, and not complain about it. Complaining isn't going to make the situation disappear.
