What is it that you don't like about the Canadian system and how do you feel about ours if you had to pay our premiums ?
The system itself is not entirely bad.... if you need emergency care, you will get it, no problem. Our system is overwhelmed. Badly. The amount of taxes we pay is substantial, and the mass flow of illegal immigrants from all over the world is collapsing the system. They contribute nothing, and drain the system.

The American system isn’t perfect either. But you have more options. I know that in both countries, the vets are not treated properly, and that upsets me.

I have VA care and I also carry private insurance, my experience with the VA is nothing short of great, not perfect by any means but they do what it takes to get you treated. in the 10 or so years I have been in the system I have seen lots of things done that outside insurance probably wouldn't pickup and they don't bat an eye, need an MRI? run downstairs and get one and come back, I could not imagine waiting weeks for something that simple. I recently had a 69 yo friend undergo a heart transplant air ambulance the whole deal zero cost to him. I know that there is a fee schedule and it depends on your disability rating (if any) and your means. I pay nothing for anything, others that I know pay 0 office visit 8 dollar scripts 20 dollar specialist, no deductibles.

No. There are a few private doctors who opened up private clinics, and the govt has done everything they can to shut them down. They don’t want a two-tiered healthcare system. For example... if your waiting six months for an mri on your knee and your in constant pain, you can pay around 600 bucks and get it done next day, or pop across to a border state and get it done for about the same price. Then you can get a surgery consult. The fear is, if your of means, you can jump the que.
I would think you would want the private clinics, that would lessen the burden on the govt. facilities and lessen the wait time, or am I missing something.

It then becomes a two tier healthcare system. Those with money get, those without wait.

Just like here. The waits may not be as long as you experience , but we wait...and we pay. Single payer works fairly well all throughout the civilized world. People are dying here because they can't afford their meds. I 'm on Medicare and the referrals are the annoying part. I can't get anything done without a referral from my primary care doctor. However, once referred, all preventative care is basically free. the rest carries a 20% co pay. A 20% co pay means we are all one major surgery away from bancruptcy. You don't have to worry about that in a single payer system.

Do you know how much additional tax you pay for your healthcare? Just curious. In this company with Cigna, a family of four can pay nearly 10% of their income for premiums. God forbid you need treatment because that's another 800 deductible per person and 8,000 per person out of pocket maximum. I am under the impression that paying the tax is cheaper than paying the premiums and /or deductibles. Medicare operates on a 3% administrative cost. Healthcare companies used to operate on 33% administrative costs. The ACA reduced that to 20 %. That's one reason why the health care companies hate it.

It’s not broken down like that. I’ll just say that in an average year, i pay 35-45 thousand in federal income tax.

Right on

All I can say is, thank God Hillary lost. I cannot fathom the bull that would have followed. Obama care pushed forward by dems. Scary as all hell! Not to mention the southern border opened wide. Allowing in immigrants from regions infested with jihadist radicals . Every day we would have woke up to another bloodbath.

You just said what is the biggest problems in both counties. "They contribute nothing, and drain the system" I grow up that nothing was free and you worked for what got. Now the harder you work the more taxes you pay the less free ::shit:: you get. This was the biggest problem with the ACA. My wife and I had great insurance at a around 80 buck every two weeks. The the ACA passes and that same plan jumps to 160 buck every two weeks and now that same plan is well over 250 bucks for the same two weeks. Now we have an HSA. The ACA screwed people with very good insurance because they looked beyond the hourly rate and looked at the total package being offered and for some reason some in our govt thought that was unfair.
You want single payer healthcare then we need a flat tax with NO deductions and EVERYONE pay and we all pay the same percentage. I tired of hearing :Sorry you make to much money and we can't help you"

All you have to do is look at Europe.

Ultimately I think we will move to a single payer system here as cost increase for both the consumer and corporations providing insurance . More companies will move away from providing healthcare insurance and even more will be left behind. It is a major crisis in the making.

I would argue that we were more unified that you might have heard. How would you explain that "poorly unified" drivers achieved the results they wanted within the week.

There is such a thing as a "tactical retreat". I wish I knew the circumstances, but you should be careful not to extrapolate your situation much beyond south Florida. It's still not a nationally unified campaign.

so the fear mongers say. It's always the fault of those lousy immigrants, good thing our country wasn't built by them.
