With a few more trucking Companies going out of buisness Yellow would be picking up those accounts and putting us laid off guys back to work.

Heard that Prime is close to shutting down.

Prime is a truckload carrier isn't it.

Mainly a lease/purchase outfit. Heard a few of their guys saying people are parking the trucks. I know they have had trouble with truth in leasing in the past. They run a driving school and push grads into lease/purchase plans. I would be surprised if they make it through 2008.

They can but most truckload doesn't pay good enough to interest the LTL carriers. The TL carriers will pull freight for next to nothing.

The problem is that freight is soft everywhere in all sectors. This is why as well as fuel prices that these carriers are going out. Plus we have competition such as Con-Way and Fed-Ex going after that freight as well. We all need to be patient. I am laid off as well and I hope things get better soon for all of us. But until fuel prices come down, we will still be stuck in this rut. People can not afford to purchase anything other then food and fuel to make ends meet. Its going to be a rough summer.

fuel prices...

I'm sorry to say brother, fuel prices are not going down. They will go higher, much higher. We must get out of Iraq! That's what is draining our economy...Just my opinion, I could be wrong

IMO Our invasion of a foreign country was designed to line the pockets of companies associated w/the current administration, to take away our personal freedoms, under the guise of protecting us and to artificially keep our economy on life support.

This allowed our economy to be manipulated into the current reality of ridiculous inflationary circumstances, while maintaining the veil over the true economic depression we are in. The true circumstance will not be felt until the war is ended, billions of tax dollars stop being artifically pumped in to bolster economic indicators and 500,000 troops come home and discover there are no jobs here for most of them. Then everyone will want to blame the Democrats.

Its way more than the war and Iraq. But just do the economics if you make $300 a week and your rent, insurance and electric and food and fuel bill totals $350 a week, what are you to do? I am waiting for the next few months when everyone living on credit cards files for bankruptcy. Then we will see what happens to the economy.

I have to say rob, that if you make $300.00 a week and have basic bills at $350.00 a week, you are making some bad decisions in life. Either you need to find a way to make more money, or you need to live within your means.

ok, lets hear some ideas on how you would solve any of the problems .oil price is not controlled by the USA.there are many things the US government can do but then the US slides toward socialism.my own opinion is let the companies fail and thise who have debt to their eyeballs go bankrupt.it will be a very long rough road but the economy will stablize after the big bust.keep the government out of the mess or it will be worst than letting it blow up on its own.the only other way out of the mess is for everyone to spend everything they make which sounds insane.

What you fail to understand is only the rich will survive economicaly. The US government can declare oil, natural gas and coal to be necessary commodities and regulate the price structure of all. Remember, we have a big enough supply in this country, to control it in our country. Mexico does so already.

Another Method
Our government can eliminate the high cost of gasoline/diesel by enacting rationing. Based on your employers reported address for you, you are allocated the right to purchase so much fuel. No extra fuel for the rich to power their boats, 4 wheelers and run on trips. No extra diesel for their RV's to play around the country. This would bring fuel prices down PDQ.

Sometimes Flattop...You make 300.00 per week and your bills were 250.00, and things happen that are beyond your control, and through inflation or a spouse can't work anymore and now your bills are 400.00 a week, your screwed by no doing of yours. A little rough on DETrob there I think.

I would like to point out that the government had to break up the oil companies in the past.I wonder what our electric bill would be if not for government regulation?

I was being hypothetical with those figures.
People were living within their means. Till Gas jumped up over $1.75 this year alone. People lost their jobs and Unemployment is not cutting it. Look at American Axle who cut their employees wages 50%. They were living within their means untill jobs were at jeapordy. What are you to do? Sell your home and move into a cheaper house at todays market? Good luck.

Flattop
I'm sure those figures were generic, but since you have proven from the beginning of contract negotiations that you're economically impaired let me help..Over the last year gasoline has risen by roughly $1.00 a gallon. That would account for $20.00 per week alone. If you add in the similar increases in natural gas and electricity you would easily surpass $50.00. You also need to take into account that alot of the people on these boards have had they're pay cut by $300.00 per wk. Thanks to so called brother's like you. All of the above are out of an individual's control..
So please emerge from your glass bubble and take a whiff of reality before making ignorant assumptions again.
