FedEx Freight | You're in the news

I fear its going to hit a wall when it does. Jersey, Chicago. Those are gimmies.

We still havent heard anything. On top of which, id say a solid 95% of the drivers in our region are strongly anti-union. Going back generations.

Be interesting.

I'm from the south, DEEP SOUTH. Used to be strongly non-union, for this company. FedEx changed that, over time. Always appreciated the stabilizing effect of the union, just never thought we needed it here, and we DIDN'T. But we do now. There is a point where the past is just that. Past. The effect on the future dictates my position, not the past.

It's called right wing radio, and propaganda. I live in the south, and it's all over the place.

Bashing the right wing (or left for that matter) is not going to help your cause. If you're looking to divide to win, you have failed before you start.

Now then, if you'd like to debate the pros and cons of "Public Sector" unions, start a new thread on that and I'll play. I'll take the con side.

I'm no history expert, but I recently watched a show on PBS called "The Uprising Of 34" about the General textile strike in 1934. The southern mill workers in particular were treated very badly, some murdered, many blacklisted. The wiki here touches on some of the reasons: Textile workers strike (1934) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeez, I can see why people would hesitate to unionize or strike in areas that the textile workers were.
Unarmed picketers against armed police and security guards that were ordered to shoot to kill.
It was also during the time when the Socialist party was attempting to make inroads. Who would want to be associated with Commie Pinkos?
Not an issue today.
Interesting that there are similarities in working conditions.
Things like job stretching---getting more labor in fewer hours through increased quotas, restricting restroom breaks, hiring more supervisors to ride herd......interesting indeed.
It also had the typical big business response---extreme violence.

But what do I know, I'm just a diesel dummy.

Sorry but we are here in the south tired of our treatment. Its coming to your center. It may be there already. There not talking or asking you because the already know where you stand.

We are tired of it also. We were ready to do this 6 years ago. Too bad all y'all weren't ready yet.

My granparents were in the garment workers uniin in NC. My father watched how they were treaed living in company housing. He moved to Mahwah NJ in 55. Worked for Ford. He was a very stubborn union man. He worked for Mack here for years. His stubborness had him follow his work to SC for 10 years driving back and forth from SC to PA almost every weekend. Hes 76 now. I told him Charlotte Fedex just petitioned to join and he looked at me and smiled a really happy smile. Sometimes enough is enough and it sure dont matter where ya live. Stick together if ya want the best. He knos that. Divided they just put everybody against each other to take your shre and treat ya worse.
