Danny was born July 5, 1936, in Vian, OK, the son of Charles and Nokie (Wood) Johnson. He was employed with Yellow Freight until 1973, when he began his career with Teamsters Union Local 41 as a Business Agent. During his time with Local 41 he served as Secretary Treasurer and Vice President. In 1987 he was named President of Local 41 and held that position until his retirement in July 1993. He also served as President of the Joint Council 56 and the MO-Kan Conference. Danny was a member of the Grain Valley Assembly of God. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting. Danny was always the first to offer a helping hand to someone in need
Danny will be remembered as one of the last of the "old school" contract negotiators. He sucessfully "negotiated" some of the best local standards that are still practiced here in Kansas City today. Many years ago, when he was running for president of local 41, I was working the dock on afternoons. He sent a pool of vans down to the barns, and each van picked up 7 or 8 men at a time, to go vote, on the clock, out at the hall, being gone for hours.. Management was told voting on the clock, was "past practice".
