constantly missing pickups, layoffs threatened due to being over on hours although we are missing pickups daily, no layoffs yet, multiple layoffs at a barn nearby (break bulk) region 10.

Why would they layoff drivers when they’re running out of hours? Wouldn’t that make problems worse?

269 has 5 on (intermittent) layoff.
They can offer them work when understaffed for that day.
Some have been going to 042 and running road for their punches.

No layoffs on the road at 086. Freight running strong and 2 senior drivers (20+yrs) retired as of 12.31.23. And I'll be retired next month.

No driver shall operate a commercial motor vehicle, and a motor carrier shall not require or permit a driver to operate a commercial motor vehicle, while the driver's ability or alertness is so impaired, or so likely to become impaired, through fatigue, illness, or any other cause, as to make it unsafe for him/her to begin or continue to operate the commercial motor vehicle. However, in a case of grave emergency where the hazard to occupants of the commercial motor vehicle or other users of the highway would be increased by compliance with this section, the driver may continue to operate the commercial motor vehicle to the nearest place at which that hazard is removed.

wonder if they'll lay anymore off today. when i left yesterday 400 was full with 100 loads to break. backlog from the weather but with temps dropping for the next week, theres gonna lots of sick days burned, rightfully.
