75 years ago today, December 16, 1944, the beginning of the "Battle of the Bulge". What US troops endured then makes our whining about work conditions seem pretty lame by comparison.

My Pops was captured as a forward artillery spotter in the Hurtgen Forest. Today is the anniversary of his capture.

My uncle was there, fought in the 80th Division. Poking around the Internet today I found the actual reports of his unit's actions during those months of fighting and in addition the actual report documenting him being awarded the Bronze Star for his actions in administering first aid and evacuating many wounded men after a direct rocket hit on their machine gun position. Gave me an awesome feeling just reading those vintage reports.

My uncle was a tail gunner in a B-17. His plane was shot down over Germany in 1944. Another crew member and my uncle went down with the plane after helping everyone else out. The two of them are buried together in a National Cemetery.

Another uncle of mine was a flight engineer on B-17's and B-24's flying bombing missions over Germany. He was luckier than your uncle and came home from the war. So sad for all who never came home.

So true. My grandfather fought in that battle. He captured 3 German soldiers, and got to bring home their sidearms. 2 were stolen and I inherited the 3rd. Of all my weapons, it's my most cherished .

Had another uncle who tried to enlist right after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The military wouldn't take him because his vision was so bad. Most everyone had to ride the bus because of gas rationing. My uncle use to say he could feel everyone on the bus staring at him because he was young and in good shape. It was like, why aren't you over there.

My Dad was a D-Day survivor. He earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service. I have newspaper clippings saying that he was the 1st American soldier to enter Cherborg France which was the 1st city the Allied army occupied on D-Day.

BRG and Wong were traveling through Ga, when he sees a sign, (Free sex with fillup)
He pulls up to the pump and asks, is the sign true? the guy says yep, you have to guess the number between 1 and 10, and you win.
BRG says, "fill er up, the number is 5"
Guy says, nope, it's 3
BRG says "I knew it was rigged, let me try again" man says go ahead.
BRG says 7, man says nope, just told you it was 3.
Going down the road, BRG said, Wong, that sign is a hoax, Wong said no it ain't, my wife won twice last week.

Did she guess 15???

Here's what really happened. The game show host responded to her answer by saying "I'm sorry but you guessed wrong." She thought he said "You guessed Wong" and she walked up to Wong and took him home with her as her prize. And what a prize he is!! :hide:

'Lucky at winning, after all she won me'. Nothing personal, but, I need to research your quote. The first witch hunt will be conducted by Maxine Walters. The first witness should be your wife. If you choose to block her testimony, Nancy will form a new committee to investigate your obstruction of the ‘Won me’ article. If after 3 years of this winning witch hunt, all parties shall retire to the nearest watering hole to vote on ‘who won whom’ All voting results shall be put in a time capsule, not to be opened till the next winning contest, whatever that might be. von.
