All are welcome. No where is OD going thru union organizing..... this thread is to express employee feelings or concerns about the Teamsters Union and a chance for teamsters to provide correct information/input about the union.Even if you can't agree respect a man's right to have an opinion.

After having a discussion on the ABF board about OD getting into the household moving scene . it is my opinion this will not go....politely....but here it goes they have the union, we don't , i am fine with that..they get all there "free" stuff (benefits) from the company and pay the union dues to secure that for them, we pay a portion of our health cost ,good so far. They will recieve a pension (if the fund remains solvent until they retire) and we pay into a 401k and get a company match. I can watch my 401k and decide what to invest in with it. I do not know if they have a say in anything reguarding their pension. I completely disagree with union policy on politics and the way they spend memebership dues .

Said very respectively there DMT..Everyone has the right to agree&disagree.like I said before we have a good thing going at OD.I do disagree with something's at OD.But,it's a job.I work&recieve a good paycheck every week. The main thing with OD is they do not ask for much..You do your job&be honest&not try to hide thing's they leave you along.Very Simple. But,there will be the one's who will try to trash what we have because they don't have it or they don't like it.O'l Well that's life...

there pension is weak and so is there union, there is not alot of union companies left
and there is alot of companies that are not going to give into them. there have been
several drivers laid off from union companies that got jobs with a non union company
and when they got the call to go back they stayed with the non union company.
union is nothing no more......

this is because they have worked for a union they do not have the mindset the union is the answer.for some the union is the only answer and i am just fine with that.

Was a youngin when my father, uncle(mother's brother), and others questioned the way the pension was being vested/ mismanagement/fraud. Uncle was even a shop steward, just didn't believe in theft. Had goons sent to threaten, vandalize and even run women hauling children off the road. It only stopped when 00 buck was implemented into vehicles. Was hard for COWARDS to hide when vehicles are peppered. Heck, I even tried in early 90's union, all was fine, then I was told to do "Volunteer" work for a political scumbag. Was a nannystate/socialist. If this was the scum I needed to protect my job, it wasn't worth it. So, am I biased, heck yes. Ever wonder why Obama stopped pension fraud/corruption investigation. Pushed card check. (Need pension contributions) Because Pension only has 50.7% of funds needed to pay current retired members, takes 49.3% of current contributions to meet past retires obligations. Pretty easy to see now, why teamster leadership had to send out the goons in the past.

My fault, it's 59.3% of funds needed to meet current pension obligations, 40.7% taken from current contributions. Still not a very solvent with the largest retirement group starting to become eligible.

1 happy family

When I started this thread I was hoping for contributions from both sides and this is what I get...........I wouldn't go as far as saying " 1 happy family " but it is better than most.Pay goes up and benefits increase.Equipment is pretty good or was when I left anyway. If you run across any of the upper management they'll shake hands and talk about anything. They've not got too big to listen.A trucking company is a trucking company OD has it's bumps in the road but all in all it seems to run smoother than others.I just don't believe a union would work at OD.Too many independent thinkers that don't want another set of rules to work by.That's just may opinion,I'm retired and really don't have a horse in this race but because most of the fellas on here are at work now I figured your post deserved some kind of reply.

There is no happy trucking company no more with all the people out of work your just a # and you can easily be replaced. We all need to fight for 1 thing you the employee.

enjoy retirement jimbob cold beer and warm weather.

dues are 2.5x your hourly rate.that gets you top of the line insurance, pension, and overtime after 8 hours.there is not one big pension fund. it all depends on what part of the country you live in.multiemployer funds. they are not just for truck drivers. different union companies pay into them. less likely to go belly up. i could care less about the unions political views or the company's.add up your ins. co pay + bills that did not get covered, straight time hours that would have been overtime + the small match you are getting to your 401k. and it is not as even as you make it out to be.if you like working at o.d., great. just letting you know the other side.

Thank you.Is that 2.5 your hourly rate per week ?

I never said anything about being the two systems being even. It is more the opposite, I am responsible for my retirement funds through the 401K contributions. The company match no matter how large or small is a bonus because it multiplies over time. And it you like union jobs that is good for you as well. A fact is if unions were to disappear we would all suffer ,but I don't want one at OD.

When you say Top of the line insurance.what does that consist of??Overtime after 8.We are having a increase in driver's trying to get on with OD now in N.C. because they are not getting any hour's or mileage from there employer now.Because there freight level's are down&no work..
