ODFL | The ODFL union/nonunion thread

Also what I have seen with the union company's.you are just fine&dandy if you are a senior guy.You get all the work&time. While the younger guy's sit at home waiting to work. With OD all work is spread even so everyone get a share of the pie.We all need to work. But,I couldn't afford to sit at home.

Yes,what I have read the pension's are not guaranteed. So if you put all those year's in&the system blow's you are out. With my 401-k I control how much I put in.Plus, company match&match's during the yr. when we are making profit's go back into my account&keep's growing&it is guaranteed.Iknow it will be there when I retire.
I never said anything about being the two systems being even. It is more the opposite, I am responsible for my retirement funds through the 401K contributions. The company match no matter how large or small is a bonus because it multiplies over time. And it you like union jobs that is good for you as well. A fact is if unions were to disappear we would all suffer ,but I don't want one at OD.

When you say Top of the line insurance.what does that consist of??Overtime after 8.We are having a increase in driver's trying to get on with OD now in N.C. because they are not getting any hour's or mileage from there employer now.Because there freight level's are down&no work..
no conttribution from you. no deductibles, no bills come to your house. you don't here that is not covered. when my kids were born i paid for phone and cable thats it. as far as the pension, they have never defaulted on payment.

sounds like fairy tale stuff there. what about the pension plans that have failed and are now paid out by gov't? are you saying this would never happen to yours?

If OD gives it's loyal a** kickers the PENSION we deserve, there shouldn't be a need for a union.Although people are beginning to resent the fact that the Congdons are buying mansions & boats, from all the money they don't have to pay in OT or a PENSION PLAN....WE ARE FAMILY MY A**

Like I said before it is there company. They can do what they want to..But,really you need to get your fact's straight before dogging the family. They donate alot of money&do alot for the triad area.they give alot of money to the Colleges in the area, etc. So they just don't spend there money on mansion's,etc. If you every met the family you would never say thing's like that. They are a very down to earth family&if you run into them you would never know who they were. Also look around&you will see who is driving new truck's&pulling good equipment..They take the profit's&put back into the company for upgrades, etc. Also, the family&top management alway's shakes your hand&tell's you Thank You for the job that you do.I bet you don't get that from the other company's.I think the big plus with OD is they have alway's had a open door policy&it work's.

They give charities the money they DON'T spend on OT & PENSION.That money becomes a TAX WRITE OFF on OUR BACKS,and in turn becomes TAX FREE $$$,while padding themselves on the back...Sick!! Get a clue dude, you sound like a recent .32 mile truckload hire who's grateful to finally be making some coin. Those of us who have built this company into the most profitable LTL have earned a PENSION.

Sounds like a union troll, which is ok. Just would like to know which LTL carrier with a pension is hiring or growing. Only a couple barely turned a profit last quarter. (Glad of that, got friends who work for them, and don't want my children to have to pay for their bailout.) Labor statistics last figures stated teamsters only had 59.3% of funds needed to cover CURRENT pension benefits, so 40.7% is being taken from current contributors. So what's the odds of it's future. So, are you part of those who's future is not that bright, if more can't be sold the socialist utopia. CF's pensioners are being paid by tax dollars. Not really something I want to be a part of.

New Penn, Holland, and ABF are all hiring. There are dozens of Teamster pension funds out there and most are still highly funded. Some are actually making money. You just post numbers from central states fund. And not one penny of taxpayer money has gone to CF pensioners. Sorry.

You know the only thing that I can say is true with the union's is they made the non-union company wake up&start offering better benifit's over the yrs.I can say that Od is a very one of a kind employer.Maybe that's why the union's never could stick in OD.The employee's never want'd them in.And,the stories that I have read from the past.Everytime they would get there foot in the door. The employee's would call Mr.Earl & tell him that they need'd to work& Mr.Earl alway's stuck with them.We has employee's should be proud that OD has stay's Union Free since they open'd the door's over 75 yrs now.And the most competive&growing LTL in the business now.

if they do that what will you ask for next. It is a never ending cycle of asking for more again and again

PBGC (A US Government agency) took over CF's pension plan on March 19, 2003. Reason? Funds not sufficient to pay retired persons their benefits. So guess that is a TAX PAYER bailout. Father (22yrs) and uncle (29yrs) both get checks from this agency. About 60% of what was promised. Maybe some got a better deal. Numbers given are AVERAGE Teamster affiliated per US Labor Board. Some must really suck. Hope these companies survive, got friends still at ABF. That and our furure generations don't need to pay for the fraud, theft, and mismanagement of these pensions.

sounds like more teamster ghost stories, we have all heard them. But I will just say this it is better to work with a contract than with out one.

you have bad information. cf was in the teamster pension plan.

if you think its a fairy tale, ask any of the drivers you see on the street how much there deductible is or how much they pay toward there insurance. they will tell you. like i said earlier. the pension plan is a multi-employer plan. its not just trucking companies. they have warehouses, nursing homes, and some manufacturing companies in it. less likely to go belly up.

O'h you are right.BUT!!!I want to work not stay at home.Talk to alot of union carrier's around here.Unless, you are a Senior guy you sit your tail at home waiting for a call. They are lucky to get 7-8 hour's a day in work.Well, no thank you !I will just stick to my plan&know that I get my 50 in a week.Yes,no OT.But, that is just fine for me.I'm still coming out better in the long run.Plus, less tax's that I pay.

Good informative posts fellas.I would like to thank everyone for checking their guns at the door.

Also, has a member of the board&veiwing the Union Thread's like alot of non-union people do.Why would I want to move. You look&listen to all the bad talk about how you&other's are being treated&response is you need the representation. What Representation. If I have a problem on how I'm treated I go straight to my manager&if he doesn't get it fix'd then I have the right to go higher up.Od has & push's the "Open Door Policy"they have alway's had this&it work's.If I need to talk to any Upper Management I just pick the phone up&call. If no answer leave message and they do return your call. They take the time to listen& Maybe that is another reason why the employee's never want the Union at OD.For the most part we are treated very well. The biggest thing here is very simple you do your job &do it right you will be left along.Very Simple. We have good insurance for what we pay.great 401-k plan that OD put money back into it,Pay raises every year, etc. The biggest thing for me is I get a Thank you for what I do.By a handshake,cook-out's,etc.I feel like someone instead of just a number.
