FedEx Freight | What the hell is going on?

Well, at least that nasty ‘ole union is gone right?
Would rather starve than be a teamster, mind you I'm almost rock bottom of our board too so I can't take the liberties the top end does and not give a care in the world of what goes on.

Always someone goes on about 'should've done the union' blah blah. Consider that big ol purple dildo we get in the ass feels a ton better than the IBT one some of us used to get. And let me tell ya that IBT one had some nice gritty sandpaper along with it.

I worked at FedEx Freight for years… I remember the “JOM” back then and the good ol “Purple Promise”, now I’m an ABF Freight “Teamster” and oh my how much my life has changed for the better since leaving FedEx Freight.

Please elaborate why it is so much better ?? Teamsters tend to support liberals and the party has moved so far left I have ZERO (which doesn’t emphasize it nearly enough) respect for those that still do. IE the better can’t possibly outweigh that for me.
Your opening up a new whole can here, I don’t need to explain myself or try to change your personal opinions/beliefs, and from what you have said it appears no matter what I say it won’t matter to you.

Save your time driver.. I’ve been on both sides (currently on the non) having a debate on here over it never goes anywhere! Especially not on the FedEx thread..

I believe the Union side is better but of course there’s a so many other factors in our personal lives that will come along and it is what it is.. if it wasn’t for that I would still be Union. Healthcare alone beats anything that these non Union gigs have to offer..

Keep on being Union proud brotha

Thing is we had decent healthcare. then a certain law came around that gave unions a edge and exemption from it and its never been the same since.

I don't have my old card kicking around but I think it was $20 for the GP, $100 for ER, $40 for a specialist and the rest was covered.

Yeah you know some guys just hate paying union dues every month. They claim “I don’t need no stinkin union to represent me.” Then bitch as they are getting bent over by the company with absolutely zero recourse.
Problem is that guys look at it the wrong way… union dues give you health, pension, protection. It’s an all in one package

It’s not just “representation“

Yeah that's the trick. Shame them into agreeing with you. I'm sure that will work. Use this opportunity to sympathize.

Are you saying that the nons have no health insurance or pension?
There is no pension for anyone hired after January 1 2021 ( I think that was the year) we had the option to stay in the pension or receive an 8% match to our 401K. I was there 32 years 10 months and 3 days when they closed our barn August 12th 2023. All that time and I have about $60,000 in my pension. As far as the insurance goes, it was ok not great but every year we would get a raise in October and insurance would go up the following January.

Huh... They quoted me 85k in my pension last year when I was considering leaving. I haven't been here 30 years.

I don't get the impression Freight is making room for ground or express shipments. During a meeting with TM not long ago he said Freight was moving 108-110k shipments system wide when we were last busy. We are now moving 85-88k shipments system wide as of two weeks ago. That's a significant drop but he stated Fedex is in no way interested in lowering prices, reason being Freight has tried that before with unfavorable results.

Were losing customers for a few reason I have found from talking with then.

1. Being charged with detention if the delivery or pickup goes past what fedex thinks it should.

2. Our prices are too high for many when another company offers the same service for less.

3. Shippers or consigne being charged extra for shipments that have more than 5 skids. The exact number on this seems to vary but say you have 5 individual bills going to the same consignee Fedex combines them billing wise and get hit with the charge. The linear ft policy we had was also reduced about 2 years ago down to 15ft.

4. This is at my center but we have had turnover in our Dispatch which has caused issues with pickups being made and we've lost the trust of customers.

I know some of these things were already policy but at my center they weren't really enforced like the detention time.
I totally agree about the detention fees It's become a problem with us on multiple occasions and it seems to happen sometimes automatically even without input from the driver. I have a local driver that's in almost every day and he's a great guy but my freight is always ready like 100% of the time and nobody sits around waiting. We've gotten nailed for detention fees a couple times. Just due to him not logging out on the pickup or something like that. Something internally with what he has to do with the FedEx system or if he's sitting there too long. Waiting for his next assignment He's even spoken to his manager and dispatch and the office people telling them that the fees are b******* and he wasn't detained. It was just an internal error but no matter how high up the chain you go they won't do anything about it. It's just a new revenue stream But we're just one small company and it's incredibly unpopular with us
