Many people actually believe that Human resources is put in place to protect or help employees. Unfortunately, this is simply not true. Besides their daily functions like payroll, productivity, hiring, firing, administering benefits, etc., their sole purpose is to protect the company PERIOD! If they happen to resolve an employee's issue while in the process of protecting the company, well then that is a plus. It is like this in almost (if not every) corporate setting. It is sad, but true. Human resources is not our friend.
I should have added... This is not to say that if your HR person is a nice person, or actually has morals, that they won't go out of their way for you. If they do, that's great, but not in their job description. Just like a driver helping out another driver.

So what your saying is you are on your own in the work place . It you vs. the company ?

I respectfully disagree:

Do agree that HR is not there ultimately for your best interest. They are there to protect corporate‘s best interest. That is not to say is a problem that they can help you with and does not conflict with the company’s interest they will do so. They are not like a union business agent who has your back and your best interest at heart.

A good HR person can strike a balance that concerns both parties corporate and employee. It really depends on the company that they work for a lot of times. If corporate puts pressure on them to consistently cut cost and challenge such things as workmen comp claims to save money then there can be a conflict. Unfortunately many times the HR people in this company do not go out of their way with helping employees because if they are not responsive and helpful a lot employees will drop the issue and go away. It really depends on the culture that the very top of the company creates. If a company is only focused on Low OR and stock price then many times employees Will be neglected on HR matters.
