Yellow | Yellow Transit Company Freight Lines Now In It's 88th Year Still Rolling Along!

Good luck with that Al. This is an ongoing feud between the knuckleheads at the now defunct Yellow and Roadway, that will never let this settle. The cold hard facts are that if Yellow had not borrowed the $$$ to buy Roadway and USF, Yellow would be resting quietly in a grave in Overland Park KS, as is Preston, Jevic, Hall Brothers. I am a proud Ex-Roadway guy, and now Holland, that knows that this bickering is nothing more then a diversion to distract us from the real problem, which is to recover the "new" company (YRC) and return ALL of us to profitability. Until Big Jim and the knuckleheads in Overland Park realize that we run this company and they don't, we are spinning our wheels. They do the number crunching and wear the good clothes, we perform the labor and daily tasks with our blue jeans, we are the "grunts", but without the grunts YRCW would be a dead duck also. As long as we fight among ourselves, we will never get anywhere. Maybe a New Year's resolution is needed here, We Shall Overcome!
bfalls you almost have to wonder if that wasnt part of the master plan, at Roadway we were told Yellow was the competion and Im sure they were told the same thing.. They blame us we blame them and everybody else in the industry is still laughing and throwing out the rumors.. The interfighting will be the demise long before the other competion..

Yellow good, roadway bad.

tutone, you are much wiser then your years!

This thread reminded me, a short time after Consolidated Freightways shutdown, that pos conjob took out a full page add in the WSJ saying how they had something like 73 years experience in the freight business.
Amazing since they only started in 1982.
Maybe they had one of yrc's old CFOs punching in the numbers!
:biglaugh:

Its really funny you start out by saying there are a bunch of knuckleheads from both companies who will not let things go like your above conduct like that& then proceed to start bashing away at Yellow!!! WTF man? There is nothing wrong with being proud of your former company I guess. While your being proud of the former company I like to call Comodeway, you should be proud of the upper managements decision to sell you out. What a nice group of people! Kinda reminds me of my days at CF. Last thing I told those idiots when I cleaned out my locker under guard escort was ( You never broke me & you never will.) Oh, I am a former employee of Yellow lest I forget & get accused of something. I did my job to the best of my ability. But to come on here & defend any of these companies to me is ridiculous.

Comodeway (Roadway Corp.) was obligated to their shareholders to accept the offer that Yellow Corp. made to buy them.

No mud, they were not OBLIGATED to take an offer. They could have said NO. They took the OFFER because THEY wanted out of the industry. As has been said here often , you were a money making operation. If so Why sell out? Because they(the owners)wanted out and got a price they could live with. They did'nt give a sh** about how it would effect you, frankly they could care less. They got theirs, you got what was left. You're ticked that Yellow bought Roadway out, go tell Staley about it. Roadway did benefit from all the money that was pumped into it in the form of equipment,(any new trailers or solid color tractors). If I've said any untruths you are more than welcome to correct me. May be you should read the contract, the part in the begining that says that the "bought company has 1 year to dovetail the senority boards or they go to the bottom , as in end tail. 5 years and 5 mos. later we had to dovetail? What bs was that , except there were more roadway at the international than yellow, that saved your tails.

For the umpteenth time, Yellow did NOT buy Roadway. A holding company named Yellow Corp. bought a holding company named Roadway Corp. I would really like to see ANY of you cite the article AND paragraph about endtailing. Regardless Article 8 give the COO commitee SOLE DISCRETION in determine seniority rights disposition. It appears to me that most of the posters here did not have much seniority and that is at the root of their frustration.

My main point is NONE of these companies have your best interest in mind when making their decisions. Maybe if they did maybe they would not be in the shape they are in!

I don't know what fantasy world you're living in, but companies exist to make a profit on what they produce or on what services they provide. They don't exist to please or pander to their employees. Just a fact of life.

FYI, YRC has begun the costly and time consuming task of re-branding trailers. Removing the heritage names and replacing them with YRC logos on the nose and rear.

This is never going to end as long as there are one person from each place left. Hope it lasts long enough for for that to happen.

Didn't mean to get your panties all bunched up, but that quote is the truth. Yellow Corp bought Roadway Corp with borrowed money in 2003. Yellow Corp had approached Roadway Corp back in 2001 asking to be bought out. Bob Stull then CFO returned to the Board and Shareholders and told them that Yellow Corp didn't fit their business model and were not a "good buy". 2 years and a big loan later, greed rears it's ugly head. The rest is history. I was with Preston, so I am well versed on the show up and clean out your locker routine. I, also did my job to the best of my ability. Show me just one of these companies today that puts it's people before their bottom line and I'll make an application to work there. (HINT: There ain't none). If you think that I'm defending ANY of these companies, I need the name of your doctor so I can get some of those prescriptions you are on.

I don't know what fantasy world you're living in, but companies exist to make a profit on what they produce or on what services they provide. They don't exist to please or pander to their employees. Just a fact of life.

Long ago and far away in a land called ROADWAY, there were 2 programs that gave employees a DIRECT LINE to the top. One was called AI (Apprecitive Imput) and the other was EEFB (Educating Employees in Fundimental Business), so it's not fantasy land, nor is it pandering. The Upper and Executive management could be the World's Greatest, but without the nuts and bolts of the Grunts doing the legwork, they ain't Shiite! The biggest problem I EVER observed was someone who was just literate enough to fill out an application and show up for work when scheduled, but when it came to being able to convey his thoughts to college kid or business major, it was like listening to a cromagnum trying to talk to a scarecrow. They weren't able to connect on any level which led to frustration on both sides, henceforth, the "Big Man on Campus" syndrome evolved. Sheepskins v Sweat. If you weren't involved in these programs then you wouldn't know. I was. Had plenty of conversations with the CEO, CFO, COO and Labor guys. Some of the points presented were implemented, some discarded, some proceedural changes came because of it. I'm not saying they are perfect, but on the flip side of the coin, neither are we. Change is slow and methodical at best. Sometimes you think that a slight push is all that is needed, but the supervisor you're pitching it to doesn't have the horsepower to implement it, he has to call up his chain of command just to get permission to wipe his backside. And that is the rest of the story.

This is never going to end as long as there are one person from each place left. Hope it lasts long enough for for that to happen.
I don't believe that pride in your heritage is inherently wrong. It is the misplaced anger and frustration. The problems do not begin OR end with YRC. The culture that was pervasive at YRCW while $bill was CEO is the root cause of most of it.
