Yellow | Big layoffs coming at you!!

Guys in their 70's are drawing a paycheck, full pension & full social security and maybe even 401K payouts. They are pulling in well over $100,000 annually.
Don't think you can retire on a teamster pension and still drive a truck..Other jobs you can do and collect social security but driving is not one of them..At least that is the way it is here in the east.

At the age of 70-1/2 everyone HAS to start taking pension, IRA, and 401-K payouts, that's the law (IRS). Consequently a person CAN work as a driver and still collect a Teamster pension at that age.

And your problem with that is? (Jealousy, envy, both?)

PS - And you may have forgotten possible IRA payouts also.

What in my post lead you to believe I have problem with it? Just putting facts out there.
And yes they could also have an IRA.

Yeah, mine is just a rookie opinion. Some things just seem bizarre when you're looking from the outside in. We have guys in their 70s who refuse to retire. Like I've said before, the Teamsters must really LOVE these guys.
For every example that I come up, sadly there is one to counter it. Thank God I was spared the "No Life" syndrome. :wavey:

You are right Triplex. I just had a Brother retire from my terminal at the age of 74. in April after his 70th Birthday he started collecting his CSP and he had been collecting his social security since age 65. I said God Bless him to be healthy enough to work at that age. Not for me but Hey. YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!

I don't begrudge anyone the right to choose when to retire. If a person chooses to work beyond "normal" retirement age, that's his/her right and none of my business as far as I'm concerned. And as you say, "God bless him". :1036316054:

I did not know that. Well, that explains everything. Like I've said before, I've learned alot, but, I still have alot to learn.

Well, I will 'take er easy' this Winter, then, when things pick up, work my butt off & save a bunch of money, after which, I will really study my options. I really like this company, but, if there is a strong possibility I will be laid off every Winter for the next 10 - 20 years, then, I will more than likely have to split (I'm too old). Oh well.

In my area first pension check precipitates retirement. Work is restricted to 100 hours per month in many jobs. They could work in jobs not on the prohibited list and I recommend getting approval from the Fund before taking the job. The penalties are heavy and it is not worth it.

The man has no life other then work..he literally worked for nothing from the time he was 65 to 70 years or so and now he's in the bottom of the ninth

74? OMG

Some people enjoy their work and some people hate their work. Why shouldn't someone continue to work if they enjoy it?

Just because someone still works doesn't necessarily mean that they don't have a life and just because someone is retired doesn't necessarily mean they DO have a life.

Don't try to judge everyone by what you feel.

We work because we need the job and the money. If we enjoy it all the better. When you collect social security and pension you are making a weeks pay OT included to stay home. I liked the job although I got to a point I had enough..I had enough when working more didn't make sense. The math is you're working for nothing. He could have stayed home and got $1500 a week? I worked part time for a non-union freight company 1-3 days a week to wind down but full time until your 74 is nuts

That's your opinion, and that's all it's worth - an OPINION. Not everyone works just for the money alone. Some people just like what they do and like to stay active. What's it anyone's business anyway? Each to his own. Some people are "old" in their forties and some people are still "young" in their seventies.

As I think back their were several people I worked with at CF that their whole life was CF. When they got to a point where they could no longer walk up the stairs to punch the clock they retired and died shortly their after. I can think of one that stayed till he was # 1 on the board then retired and died before he got his first check.
I can also say that many of you think you can't get out the door fast enough when you reach retirement age, well it is a bit of a scary thing to just walk away from your life as you know it.

Well, working for free and keeping others from working and making money they desperately need I think is kinda selfish and non 'brotherly'. However, it is indeed their right to work for free. We got guys in their upper 70s who refuse to retire. Didn't realize they were working for free. Teamster Brotherhood? Umm, ok, if you say so.

Edit: Well, I've been laid off for 3 weeks now. You know what they say about idle minds? lol Sorry for whining like a baby.

sorry i started this .JUST DO NOT KEEP SAYING YOUR GOING TO RETIRE TO ME WHEN I AM LAID OFF . Its like he is putting it in my face SO much for a BROTHER

If the times were good there would no hard feelings about guys choosing to not retire. They have never been layed off because of no work. There are only so many job spots available. Being laid off is a terrible thing they never experienced. And some just don't care.

Retired teamsters are allowed to work x amount of hours for the company when no one is laid off. Hours are kept at a minimum to protect a new hire job. Retirement at age 65 should be mandatory for the same reason. You had your time now get lost!!
