FedEx Freight | 2nd Job

Dude,
the FMCSR's require you to work no more than 70 hours per reset, 14 hours per day at all compensated employment. What you do is DOT business regardless of whether you're being compensated for being a Walmart greeter or flippin' burgers. That's the law. Get over it. Because you have a CDL, your life is under a microscope.

Jeff

MrFxFw is a lean mean driving machine - and if he sounds too intense - well it's because he grew up in NYC and now lives in CaliPornia. :TR10driving03: :kicking: :kiss2:

Dude,
having seen too many horror stories in the Ca media about truckers being crucified for Vehicular Manslaughter, I just try to advise my brothers and sisters to follow all the laws to the letter...

Think I'm kiddin'? Work two jobs without loggin' the second one, and some idiot drunk runs into you and dies...the Attorney General out here does a forensic on your bank account, figures out you're working two jobs and "re-logs" your hours of service. If you're over hours when the accident happened, it's your fault and you're lookin' at 8 years and 8 months per fatality. End of deal, you've got a roomate named bubba who thinks you're his B****.

Be careful out there, you know how I worry!

I have not, and do not, disagree with any part of your statement quoted above. The discussion was how the COMPANY feels about it, not how the DOT feels about it.

If you will please note in my previous post's on this subject, you may note key words/phrases such as "so long as it is legal" (a.k.a. no hours of service violations), and "does not interfere with my first obligation to Fedex" (a.k.a. don't use up my hours somewhere else and not have enough to make my Fedex tour of duty).

It IS my buisness what I do on my own time, but within guidelines just like EVERYTHING is. If you decide you want to go for a drive on your day off, that is your buisness UNLESS you decide to drink a quart of Jose' Cuervo before you leave, then things get a little more complicated.

Therefore, I do not grasp what your point is, but if it has gone completely over my head, I apologize. One thing I have never been accused of is being a "genious". :smilie_132:

I think the point the CALIFORNIA CRUISER - aka MrFxFw is trying to make is about HOS only. Fedex itself will have a set of triple cows if you are governed by HOS in any way and they catch you using your hr's for another carrier. If you are flippin' burgers, judging Hooters girls or greeting at Wallyworld or anything else that is nonconflicting w/FDX then I'd say it's 'don't ask don't tell'. What say you? :1036316054:As for the legal stuff he is exactly right.

It is possible to have a 2nd job, you just have to get permission from HR that the company you want to work for is not on the conflict of interest list they have. You just call HR at head quarters and they will tell you if the company you want to work PT for is on the "list", then ask your terminal manager for the form for a 2nd job, he will tell you that he has to check to make sure there is not a conflict of interest, tell him you already called HR at HQ and they said it was not and tell him they are expecting the fax from him..you will get it back approved right away this way, you also can get hired on by the company before you check if it is a conflict of interest, but you have to request the form from your terminal manger and have him fax it before a certain number of days when hired by the other company..
Of course you have to comply with all the DOT rules and regs and keep your logs up to date and from what I have heard some terminal managers even want you to fill out FEDEX logs every monday and turn them in to them..so you end up doing major amounts of paper work to have this second job if they want you to do this.

Also be prepared to explain the DOT log rules and laws to your terminal manager as they more tham likely will have no clue and will give you a hard time because they don't get it. A call to safety will usually fix this as they will explain to your terminal manager that you are in compliance and doing your logs correctly..

Having a second joib is possible, however it can be more like having a 3rd job as you have to do paper work and explain your logs and stuff over and over and over to clueless persons who have never driven a truck and have never had to do a log book..

Can anyone answer me why mrfxfw is so wound up like a ticking time bomb? He is simply amazing! He knows everything, been everywhere, know all about CWX and every othr company, personal friends with Fred S. GW Bush etc.
27 years and how many accidents?
I bet this character is like the bad smell in a crowd. You can't get away from him fast enough.
