CNN) -- At least 11 people were killed in a wreck on Interstate 65 in Kentucky on Friday morning, a spokesman for the Kentucky State Police said.The wreck happened between 5:30 and 6 a.m., said Lt. David Jude.A tractor-trailer apparently crossed the median and hit a passenger van head on, he said. Most of the 11 who died were in the van, he said, but the tractor-trailer driver also died.

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – A coroner say the death toll has risen to "at least 10" people in a fiery crash between a tractor-trailer and a van on northbound Interstate 65 in south-central Kentucky.Hart County Coroner Jeff Roten confirmed the number dead in a phone call with The Associated Press.
Emergency Management Director Kerry McDaniel says the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. CDT Friday morning.McDaniel says the van was carrying "men, women and children." He said the tractor-trailer was going south and crossed the median, striking the van head-on near Munfordville, about 75 miles south of Louisville.
The truck hit a rock wall and burst into flames. McDaniel says the truck's driver was killed.

Ky. report about their cable barriers unable to stop this semi,due to speed & weight.
I'm thinking that this trucker must have fallen asleep,as when you doze off at the wheel of any vehicle.
your body slumps down with your foot depressing the accelerator,causing your vehicle to speed up.

In which case no cable barrier no matter how strong would have prevented this horrific crash.
This fatal crash is a very good example of why every driver needs to be well rested before driving any motor vehicle.
