The downsizing was fierce: no doubt about it.
But, while the others grew they did it at a cost. Most were so heavily discounting that they also have been losing money. The strategy of price wars to steal market share is tried and true. Especially when a large competitor is on the ropes. I think that they were competing with each other-not YRC. They had already counted on YRC's death.
They figured that a debt loaded YRC couldn't afford to match their prices. They were right So, for the most part, YRC didn't try and, as a result, lost market share.
What the others didn't figure was that Wiley Willy would get a deal with us and with the bankers and bondholders.
