This is why they started cut time at the FAC. Now the freight is getting back early, at my barn, and there still behind. I had the guy that left the FAC at 3am and when I got back at 8am his trailer will still not broke. Also at the FAC if a sub-service comes in after 2am it parked and worked the next night and 3am for XPO pups.

At our fac, Fos told us they are coming down hard on cut times and late arrivals. Apparently you don’t want to be the one that has to answer why your drivers are showing up late! It needs to happen and they need to stick with it. Too many lh guys getting rescued still.

Are drivers being rescued on short runs , long runs , weather related - just curious?

Also , drivers that have runs two hours or shorter should be available to work the dock at their home terminal. It used to be short run drivers worked the outbound to get the the loads closed.

Now , no matter how short handed you may be , short run drivers just wait on their loads - empty forklifts sitting all over. Or , they have city drivers working OT on outbound instead of having the short run drivers help.

As long as you call dispatch and let them know what the hold up is, no pressure on you! Communication was so key when I was in the city. Funny how some of the drivers at my barn don’t get that.

Our run is almost 600 miles. Plus we have the border to clear both ways. They are using us as free labour for the day shift. I was told” I don’t care about your inbound”. Nice attitude.

Tell them you don't care about their FAC , get your inbound, I ran into that situation early in my career running to NWN, many many years ago. They had me breaking inbound freight and even though I was the newbee , I knew that I was there to work the reship and I called them out on it. It's a wonder that I didn't get in trouble for that back then when they were really strict about everything.

That is awful. They have to have 100% participation or it will not work. If even 5% of the network plays by its own rules the snow ball effect on every piece of freight that was delayed getting back to the several different inbounds will be disastrous.

They are hiring what they can. It's cold out. Around 19:00 a guy was freezing and in the drivers room the other night. I am like hey, you only got a few couple more hours, right ? He says no, he has to go until 01:00. I gave him some fresh warmers out of my bag and told him they sell boxes of them on Amazon usually around $20 for 40. We all gotta do our part to retain the ones that work.

Clearly, this idea makes way too much sense for higher-ups to attempt. The last thing they want is happy drivers because you know, a happy driver is a lazy driver, right? At my place, the dockmen work split shifts, inbound and outbound. If we did icuicp's idea, the drivers could work inbound and they could start calling dockmen in around 1500 to start working the early volume stuff the morning drivers are bring back. Drivers get more early bids and dockmen don't have to work a split shift. I might even stop looking for another job if they did something like that.

If the economy picks up with the Tax cuts
Etc., And it does create a multitude of jobs,
Freight Companies will have a tough time keeping anyone . Dock workers will choose a factory job inside out of the elements, Managers will look for a job with less
Stress and volatility. Just think about it, having a regular schedule that your start time and end time are usely set with overtime over
40 hours. People like that kind of thing. Pay and Bennie's are rising in other industries.

I have never stopped looking either. Always keep in touch with guys that have moved on and what they are into now. Always checking the job boards. Always have one eye on what's out there.

Strong post. I wonder if these companies realized the TRUMP BUMP would be this strong and have so many side effects ?

If anyone has ever spoken with the people that are targeted for dockworker jobs , drugs , drinking , being late , not giving a f_ck , this is normal. If a guy can work in a warehouse that's warm , has a quiting time AND women to flirt with for $5 less an hour than what XPO offers - he'll probably turn down XPO.

Why go through all of what XPO wants you to do if you are OKAY where you are? To hire people to fill the gaps requires attention to detail , not just more money , ads , and recruiters.
