Since XPO took over , in my area , we are supposed to be under a hiring freeze ( for drivers ). People can be hired if it goes up to the VP level.
Yet I see ads for other divisions of our company ( some on Truckingboards ) I've heard ads on the radio ( America's Trucking Network iHeart radio ) and I see them on the job websites ( Indeed , career builder , etc. )
I wonder why the restrictions on the freight side and not the other divisions.
My opinion is that maybe Mr.Jacobs is still putting the pieces of his whole service offerings together and then begin a massive 'cross selling'
campaign. Why do I think this? Well, my SCM said that going forward everybody will more or less be involved in sales. Something like what
Conway did years ago with DSR's engaging in '30 second sales calls' when out and about on P&D routes,(basically talking up service times,
coverage area, low damage issues, etc...I know cause they trained us and asked us to do that kind of selling way back then at my barn). And then
secondly, I suspect that the plans are not yet finalized for cross selling. Why? I asked my regional sales manager when he was going to start
giving us sales literature and training us on how he wants us to get involved in some kind of a new 30 second sales call going forward and he
said, "Just chill out for a while cause it's still being worked on".
Bottom line...I guess XPO LTL will take off when everybody,(DSR;s and SCM's), begins engaging in cross selling all of XPO's service offerings,( and the economy picks up, and we get better weather and into the busy season). At least that's what I hope!
But as always...we'll just have to wait on this speculative thinking and see what really transpires.
