I was chatting with a co-worker last night, and he stated to me that one of his teamster buddies from term. 120, Strousburg, Pa., talked to him yesterday, and he stated that Roadway sent his buddy a letter in the mail asking him to resign, and then come back as a caual dockworker. It sounds like a two- tier wage system like the UAW has in place. While talking to a Rdwy. supervisor last night, he stated to me that Roadway Express, AGO in Akron, Ohio, has told their T.O.M.'s/ supervisors not to call in laid off dockworkers after June 15, 2008. If this info. is all true, then let the war begin! Sincerely, rdwy nc, Dockworker at #671, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Akron does not tell local management how many to lay off or how many to call back. Weak management uses this as an excuse because they do not have the backbone to tell their employees that THEY made the decision to lay them off and to not use them.

layoff numbers are determined by tonnage and freight miles based on the lanes traveled by a particular terminal -

these numbers are reviewed by the GOB (general ops board) in overland park KC - passed to AGO operations for review - then the cuts are emailed to your local service team manager.

"Akron" or more accurately Kansas City (yellow) ____ IS _____ where the word comes from. Your local terminal manager only send in the reports from which these decisions are made.

That may be the way it used to be done but it is not anymore. There is program on the intranet (it is called BID FORCAST) the local service center manager puts the numbers in and makes a desicion based off of those numbers.

So, what you are saying is that you heard from a guy who heard from another guy. It must be true because it makes perfect sense. :hysterical:

layoff letter correction

So, what you are saying is that you heard from a guy who heard from another guy. It must be true because it makes perfect sense. :hysterical:
the correction is this....a dockworker from Stroudsburg who is on call, told ME yesterday that those on layoff from that terminal, all received letters this week from the company asking them to resign from the 5 yr. callback list...and that they would be first to be considered for casual positions..... this company is PRETTY SMART, to think that they would actually go for that:tongue0002: he also went on to say that all their management was still there, despite the fact that hardly anyone is there anymore.....they are down to 15 dockworkers at night with 6 supervisors:duh: now tell me this company is TRYING to cut costs at the expense of OUR jobs:butt kiss:

we are trying to get a copy of this letter

Well, that was worded a bit differently than the original post. He made it seem as if the company was sending these to EVERYONE. Now, I could see why Rdwy would send those letters out, but I couldn't see why anyone would agree to do that.

:biglaugh: Too funny!!!!
I'd eat about 2 pounds of habaneros, let that work its way through my system. Wipe my @zz with the letter and mail it back with a big:tongue0002: on it.
They plan on eliminating someone's job, make em wait the 5 effin years.

slabslob, I agree. It'd be worth the extreme pain to do that. But then, I'm not really in the mood to deal with these jokers anymore. Laid us off for 3 months, call us back for 3 weeks, lay us back off.

G-man is right about the letters at 120. I will see if I can get a copy. Today we had about 20 dock workers on the dock. We had 4 stripping foremen, 3 planners, 1 WI guy,and we would of had 5 foremen but he took off today. Not to metion our 2 ATMS, on the dock. We still have as many foremen now as we did 3 yrs ago when we were at full power. WTF I was told if they did not respond within 7 days it would be consider to be resigning. I do not know why so much management is still here.

Please don't post the letter here, it is a rule violation and will have to be deleted. Use the context to take accurate info out of it and post in your own words, thanks..........:1036316054:/

My advice to the 120 guys or anyone else that gets this letter.........don't sign anything. They (RDWY) still can't work casuals ahead of laid off men and most areas have 5 year call back language in their contract.

Do what you have to do, get another job, collect unemployment get back into acting in the porno business.....:hide:.....just don't give up your seniority to become a casual. You guys think Mark S. thought this up??

I know it's wishful thinking but who knows what five years could bring, just being optimistic. DS.

If they are using June 15 as the cut off point, then you have to guess that`s when the COO will go into effect. There will be even less freight at 120 as they will run most of it ,if not all, into Maybrook. Less freight= less dockworkers.:smilie_132:

how did you find out about my second job?

The whole idea about getting everyone on layoff to resign is to eliminate their layoff board. Once eliminated, they would be free to use $14/hour casuals. Make them sweat. Don't resign. Don't play into their hands. Why should you give anything up, to be called back at a lower wage for less hours.

DockSteward, when I signed up for Roadway, I was told it'd be steady work, blah blah, they same ol' usual line of BS that they used. But, when they laid us off again after April 1st, I found out something.

I went into the office, because I wanted my vacation pay. Hey, their going to offer it, I'm going to take it. Then I asked if I should go get another job in the "meantime". I was told, to do what I had to do, like everyone else, but [the person I was talking to] didn't expect to see many of these laid off guys actually stay with roadway.

So, do you really think these guys care whether we stay on the lay off list? They still aren't paying us, if you take the casual layoff, they just have to try to give you a call, before they call in the "usual casuals", for lack of a better word. I know they've capped the road board in my domicile, even though they're sticking with their story of "It's not capped, it's whoever's below this line is laid off"....yeah right. I'm expecting one of those letters in the mail anytime,

Stop This Now!

:USA:My advice is to make copies of these letters and forward them to Tyson J. the IBT Freight Director as soon as possible! Fax them if necessary! If your local is involved in the Roadway change of ops, send copies of them with your Business Agent or Stewards who can personally hand them to Tyson and if possible get them read into the record at the hearings! This kind of bulls**t must be stopped NOW! We're not going to make it easy for the YRC companies to screw over the laid-off employees more than they already have been! Let's stop this NOW! FIGHT THE POWER!:chairshot:

:biglaugh: Tyson probably GAVE them the idea.:hide:

since yellow bought this company out i've seen it getting worse and worse
1. we lost a lot of freight accounts, we handle more "easy" freight when we should handle freight that increases revenue and profitability instead
2. where there is management there are employees, but have a fixed ratio on employees to management so things don't go out of control there if there is a big layoff at that terminal, too many management bottom feeders now, not gonna work hard to pay some lazy ***....i've seen 4 supervisors fooling around like playground kids pretty often while i'm working like a dog saying to myself this is a pretty unjust working environment but things will get more just down the road when we both lose our jobs
3.our company looks in the wrong directions to cut costs, why lay off a guy that put his whole career into the company, to save 7 8 or 9 bucks an hour with pension, benefits, and weeks vacation, our older owners are a bunch of sell outs cause they saw the bad economy thing happening, and the current owners run this company very sloppy, i think you can get drunken sailors to run this company better cause all they do is **** money away but at least they ain't got a :shit:ty attitude about it like the people that run this company at company headquarters being skells over there in overland park twiddling their thumbs doing absolutely nothing to get a paycheck that exceeds most hard working americans, this stupidness is gonna drown us our jobs cause the real rats cost this company way too much and i should take pictures of what management does on my cell phone and show the stockholders at the stockholder meetings that this is what the company pays for and that's why your stock is worth ::shit::

Cutting Costs and Lay'd Offs

As long as we (I'm Yellow but Roadway has the same contract) are layed off, management can't hire anyone. We have to be called back (at that particular terminal) before they can hire new. Talk to your local about this rumor.
