Depends on the street. Not allowed where there are any large pot holes or any low hanging obstructions.

The one I had originally seen advertised (that one is apparently not the one) had an air compressor and used air to release the Maxi's and to apply braking when needed.

Update: This one has the optional air compressor for releasing the brakes. I don't see anything about applying the brakes but I could have been mistaken about that. Guess you could dump the air if it started to get away. Probably not best to use it on a non-level surface anyway.
