I agree to an extent. The threat of unionization certainly alters behavior of those that wouldn't otherwise be persuaded. However, some folks are inclined to learn from close calls and don't want to experience them again....dodging a bullet if you will. Most people won't put themselves in that same situation again. However, if they find out those bullets have all been blanks...
For the sake of most involved, the employees, the corporation, and the shareholders, I hope the organization attempt fails AND that the FedEx corporate folks take a good long hard look at who they have in various positions of leadership and those folks' abilities. What can be done to alter the environment in a positive way, while still providing the return and stability the shareholders are looking for? That starts from the top down. Don't berate the regional guy and he likely won't berate the SCM, who likely won't berate the OPS Manager, and so on...
We can't all sit around the campfire and sing kum-bah-yah (sp?), as there is work to be done. However, treating people how you would like to be treated goes a long, long way.
