XPO | Oh boy, now things will get really interesting

My point exactly, Menlo they know, LTL they don't know.
It's been said that XPO would take an enormous risk with a business model that they have little to no information or experience with - The FedEx Ground Model.

While the XPO company is taking a different approach to get more leverage on the customer ( they are "betting" in the near future there will be a shortage of equipment and drivers ) , XPO seems to make their moves based on common sense - supply demand.

Also , when you start reading about the 33ft trailers , it's a better than 50% chance it's going to happen. Why not own a company that makes trailers.

XPO is not gambling on Con-way - let's be clear. Even with lackluster management a profit is being made. They've been watching Ann Arbor long enough to know it won't be too hard to run Con-way more efficiently.

Doing a little research on line, the only XPO company driver ad I could find paid UP TO $18.50 an hour in Middleton Co. Up to $18.50,really? Most ltl carriers start at $20 an hour. This outfit looks like bad news and given Conway's record with honesty I sure hope this deal never goes thru. I can see XPO coming at the Conway drivers with some bs tractor lease/purchase program.

I'm sure others may have mentioned it before and I've missed it. But can it get any worse than the profits over people culture that Con-way adopted over the last few years? If XPO toes the same line, it will be same old for the current employees.

I am not a Con-Way employee I have been at New Penn 20 years, Seems a lot of people are questioning XPO on experience . I remember Fed-ex and UPS announcing they were going into freight. I asked an Executive at New Penn if they had plans to prepare for more competition and his reply was " nothing to prepare for they are small package companies they don't know how to do freight they will be gone " Both of them are still in freight and doing pretty well. Hopefully XPO brings good freight people and you guys are fine don't drive yourselves nuts on what ifs wait till you see the plan. Best of luck to all of you.

I know everyone is a little nervous about this buyout, but come on. We're XPO'S first LTL carrier in the US. You are not going to find what they are going to pay us on the web. That pay scale is for carriage or truckload. Our truckload pays less than we do, so why should XPO be any different? I doubt they pay us less than everyone else in the LTL industry. CEO of XPO has already said there's a driver shortage and that was one reason he wanted to invest in hard assets of owning trucks with the drivers that goes with it. He also stated he wanted to keep the drivers happy. I just don't see them paying 3 billion just to **** off the drivers.

Probably safe to say the news he received via mass text originated from you then! Sucks the company didn't give you a heads up first. Truckingboards helped spread the word to the rest of us before some employees even knew. That ain't right.
They cant give out info like that until the deal is done and has been made public due to insider trading laws.

We got a mass message from headquarters in Joplin

Yeah, if you squeeze real hard you might get a turd out of YRC but never 200 million!
Ouch! That's brutal. There's some good stuff going over there at YRC if you read their threads. I get the feeling from the "XPO will slash your pay!/what's the pay going to be?!" guys , that they only want you to do their research - Ready to go which way the wind blows?

Ok so there's a shortage of drivers in the USA and alot of ltl companies who pay around the same....now....XPO has dabbled in just about everything except for ltl.... .now If XPO comes in, cuts our pay and takes our benefits, guess what. ....xpo looses it's ltl drivers....how hard do you think it's going to be for them to hire an abundant amount of ltl drivers when there's a shortage of drivers as it is and they are competing with other ltl companies with pay. I'm being cautiously optimistic here, but I think that the big wigs at xpo have thought this out thoroughly, because it's just common sense. Boys I don't think we have much to worry about....we aren't cooks. We aren't managers or IT specialists, THEY NEED US....we will always drive we will always adapt we will always provide for our families, but will they have what it takes to keep some of the best drivers in the industry under their name.....let's face it us CONWAY drivers are the best drivers out there.....they NEED us we don't Need them.

More and more this is the thinking. That they are bringing a mess of work with them and that we will be buried in it.

And that compensation may actually turn out better in that we will be a part of a stronger better company. But that wages likely won't change much.

I've been told some of the Pacer drivers really like it since they got bought up.

Cautiously optimistic.

Hey highspeed,
I understand the fear and the frustration that follows along with this change over, at first I was shaking in fear, I can honestly say that I take pride in being a conway LINEHAUL driver....but all this negative bullS***.....IT NEEDS TO END......we aren't thinking clearly because we are afraid...because if we set that fear aside and just think for a minute what really is going on....you'll figure out....this XPO company is most likely going to turn out to be a GREAT thing for us.
Cautiously Optimistic.

Don't wanna get all riled up and not see the big picture. We ain't nothing but drivers. There is more than one way this can go. And we are heading that way regardless. Just talking it out man.

Relax you all.Geez!! There are some issues open and are being investigated. One question is about why the board of directors are settling on a lower price than the Target price of your stock? 2.72billion is quite low for a decent operating ltl company such as Conway.Conway and it's subsidiaries are worth way more than that.Suspicious at best.
