Analyst warns fleets to expect ‘fire hose’ of ELD violations

https://www.ccjdigital.com/analyst-...tm_term=newsletter-2-daily-position-top-story

"Even fleets used to running electronic logging devices should be prepared for a rude awakening Sunday when highway enforcement begins cracking down on ELD compliance, said Vigillo President Steve Bryan."

“This is not limited to the small owner-operators,” he said. “Everybody’s getting these violations written,” including large fleets that feel they’ve established highly compliant ELD operations."

"FedEx revealed in an unusual late night statement March 24 that it will not be proceeding with a distribution center that the company previously said would employ 455 people. FedEx cited “projected operational needs,” but did not elaborate on its reasons for scrapping the project."

I think this analyst needs to stop trying to hose people. If drivers are using the ELD, entering breaks, off duty, pre and post trips, and driving, and not trying to circumvent the rules, like with paper logs, the majority should be fine.

Had heard that a company memo was to be sent out by April 1st to educate everyone that we do NOT use ELD’s but rather AOBRD’s since we fall under the current exemption...and there’s a major difference between the two....has anyone seen this mysterious memo??

I have seen the memo and what you state is correct. I recall Fedex has until the end of this year or 2019 to switch from AORBD to the ELD. The ELD is a federal mandate. The difference between the two is AORBD can be over written by the Kronos clock and that's a big no no.

The South heats up, but Atlanta is burning with freight

https://www.freightwaves.com/news/southern-heat-atlanta-burning

"The Atlanta freight market is seeing its largest increase in load rejections of the year, according to the tender rejection index (TRI). The TRI measures the number of loads rejected by carriers as a percent of the total loads offered by shippers. Currently the 7-day moving average is showing carriers are rejecting approximately a quarter of the loads tendered in the Atlanta area. The southeastern parts of the country appear to be heated with markets like Nashville and Jacksonville showing late winter spikes in rejection volume."

So, the trend of too many hours/too much freight, can be expected to be the coming "challenge"? Those rejected truckloads have to move somehow... Guess who's gonna do it.

Driver Pay, Bonuses Rise as Carriers Seek Scarce Truckers

"The need for drivers has been spurred by an unemployment rate around 4%, an expanding economy, and a boiling-hot freight hauling business.

For instance, Truckstop.com’s Market Demand Index (MDI) is at 53.3, near an all-time high and an indicator of an extraordinarily high need for trucks and truck drivers. A number less than 20 denotes a market that favors shippers, while a number higher than 20 equals a truckers market. The MDI last peaked at 33.1 in 2014 when demand for trucks was high due to a series of weather events."

Word on the street, even our local "biggest bottom feeder" is offering $2500.00 sign on bonuses. Always hiring & not very picky about who they hire...
