ABF | Teamster or schemester

One of us is getting smarter
Just my opinion. Is because there current top scale pay. Younger new hire's are worried about the 3-5 $ higher starting pay elsewhere. They cant or wont understand the benefits.

Of the 100 paid Health @Welfare. The best in the trucking industry. With a good pension paid for-100 percent.

To be honest when i hired in at 063. It wasnt for the money or bottom seniority work schedule. Is was for the H#W and Pension.

I hear at Old Dominion they only do 49.5
Talked to a city driver this week ( former Teamster) he told me that they are so slow he can’t believe they didn’t layoff yet. He also told me the overtime is almost impossible to get because of holidays & other days that they have scheduled off to have something like 15 weeks a year to get overtime. He also told me that they went from a O.R of 75 to a 76 and they are riding them from gate time to how long they are at a stop….

**** that. NO offense to the OD Drivers. Theres no way i would put up with that.

Sounds to me like you should follow these “young people” to what ever Freight company they are going to. Be sure and let us know how that fully paid pension/health & welfare works out for you over there. Not to mention the grievance process. You do of course realize that your pension/health & welfare are paid on your behalf at a rate of over $800 a week. These “young people” that leave for higher wages will soon realize how much better off they were at ABF when theirs or their wife or child’s health deteriorates. Believe me when I tell you the health and welfare is worth it’s weight in gold.
And I don’t know about what pension fund you are with that cuts your pension in half at age 57. I am in Central States, and our pension is reduced by 6% for each year you are shy of 62. If I retire at age 62, my pension will be just shy of $5000 a month. Tell me what other freight employer will pay for your pension and let you retire at age 57 with full pension. For that matter, what other freight employer will pay for yours and your families healthcare plan?
You forgot to mention that the taxpayers paid more than $120 BILLON for your pension.
Left on its own the pension would default without welfare from the government..
So you job/union is not paying teamster pensions, you pension survives off of corporate welfare..

Why does central states act like it's their money? I think teamsters should just stick to UPS, spin rest off. We need small dedicated union.

Why don’t you give it a rest until our contracts are settled. Or start your own thread where you can continue your hate for the union (while you collect a union pension….Hypocrite) Your bouncing from every union forum spreading nothing but negative nonsense….

What does this have to do with whether he stays or leaves the company?
If the government had not got involved back in 1980 with de-regulation which gave the non-union companies an unfair cost advantage, a lot of the union companies that were around back then might very well still be around today. But again, what does this have to do with whether or not the man leaves the company because he is not happy?
You must be Razorblades kin. Bite the very hand that feeds you!!!

Rock, you are on point, another issue is/ was the government telling funds they can't be more than 100% funded, my fund at one time was 135% funded, they had to started paying crazy accrual rates (350 a credit) and 13TH checks, to burn up some of the money.

My fund (Central States) never got above a 79% funding rate (I think it was). But, I still remember when our pension was paying out at 2% of contribution credits per year back in the late 90’s up until 2004 when they dropped it to 1%. I remember being told back then that it was because Central States was funded over 90%. I later found out that was not accurate and was corrected here on TruckingBoards by a former poster.
I hate the taste of crow ever since that day as the poster that corrected me was not one I had ever agreed with or got along with. LOL!!!

Really? "If the government had not got involved back in 1980 with deregulation."
Do you not understand that deregulation got the government UNIVOLVED with dictating rates and limiting competition to the benefit of the American consumer? The free market, capitalism, works best when government gets out of the way. Government control of the markets is textbook socialism.

I would be much more sympathetic to your argument if the government, when they deregulated trucking, had they made it fair.....what I mean by that is rather than give unfair advantages to the non union startups, make it more level...especially after the union companies spent millions securing the territory that the government made them buy to operate there...other examples are, no overtime for truckers, what a farce.....sitting at a dock for two or more hours to get detention time.....then when you get detention time it doesn't even equal minimum wage.....but nope most of these non union companies built themselves up by screwing the mostly uneducated people who drive trucks (myself included).....and the existing (mostly) union companies that had all these expenses the nons didn't have...

That's because he is a disgruntled ex union hater from NEMF. Ignore him, all he wants to do is cause trouble on union forums. At one time he claimed to own his own trucking company, but he always had time to bash Teamsters.:17113:

My fund on the West Coast has over 35b in it smart guy, many funds across the country needed nothing. But if OD lays you off Puffy & lets junior guy work nothing you can do but cry. Or even fire you for not getting ur TM his coffee if he tells you to fetch. :1036316054:
